My friend is getting ready to get fired because she dyed her hair. Is this legal? What can she do (other than dye her hair back) to avoid getting fired? If they fire her can she take legal action?

Depends on what she does for a living. Did her job have a written dress code? Was she warned about it? Is her job a job where her appearance has an impact on revenue or client satisfaction? Odds are it did.

That said, I'll bet you my life savings that this is not the REAL reason she is getting fired. There is more to this story than what meets the eye. I guarantee it.

Well, it most certainly is against the dress code if she is getting fired over it and no, there is no legal action she can take. Woman in the military cannot color there hair any color other than a natural color and depending even on your unit you may not be able to even get highlights (even if they look natural). If immediate action is not taken they can take action and either color it themselves or shave her head if she is not compliant. (I even have had a girl come into me saying that her command told her to change her NATURAL color, her own, noncolored hair because they thought it wasn't a natural color. Her own hair, no color on it.) So yes, they can fire her if immediate action is not taken.

Don't know where you live, but here in Texas, you can be fired/terminated/let go for any reason. I think they call in no-fault, or no-cause, or something like that. However, while you can't sue (unless it was because of race, religion, age, sex, handicap - that kind of stuff), you may be able to collect unemployment, depending on the circumstances.

probably not. usually if its a normal color it shouldnt be a problem. but a lot of companies have a policy against unusual hair colors. even a lot of gas stations. if she wants to keep her job,. she should color it a normal color.
