Nascar racing a sport. Yes !!! Its image is kinda is sketchy cause it's a good-ol boy sport from it's origin, but none the less with it strong west coast contingent ( Jeff Gordon, Jimmy Johnson ) and the amount of foreign drivers jumping into it's ranks, it has made the most headway as an international sport of all the major American sports and bridged some of the United States regional differences in a lot of positive ways that I thought were almost unthinkable !!!
I kinda like when Nascar comes to town in Fontana, Ca. The fans are great and the people are really kinda cool, while watching the drivers go in big circles. I myself would probably get bored after 30-40 minutes myself watching that kind of entertainment, but hey ... if it floats your boat ...
Lastly, driving four days a week sometimes five, at speeds of up to 200 mph and with the demands that racing takes on a driver and pit crew isn't considered a sport, who ever says the stock car racing isn't a sport should have their head examined.

I played football in high school and I never thought NASCAR was a sport until I watched it and listened to what was talked about. The drivers have G-Forces to contend with, sweating loosing weight, science is involved, how they are going to win, do they take 2, 4, or no tires, the speed of the tires put on the car, etc. If you don;t want to think of NASCAR as a sport then don't, but it sure is funny people think of golf as a sport. By the sport is competition and what are these guys doing, competeing. By the way, some ex-football players are crew members and have owned teams. So, I guess they think NASCAR is a sport. Brad Daughtery(sp?) an ex-basketball owned a Busch car and now is announcing, of course he has talked about he and his father went to NASCAR races when he was a kid and Richard Petty was his favorite driver. Write him and ask him if thinks NASCAR is a sport.

NASCAR is a sanctioning body of motorsports. A NASCAR driver has to be incredibly athletic to withstand the heat (while wearing a firesuit, flame resistant gloves and shoes, and a full helmet), the G-forces, the carbon monoxide that kicks back into the car, and be able to control a car travelling at 200+ MPH. That's hard work.
Anyone with an IQ higher than a jar of mustard would realize that one afternoon of rush hour all over the world wastes more gas than one weekend of racing events. Ruminate on that. Oh, sorry, ruminate mean think, FYI.

Hauling your sorry butt to the mall is a waste of gas. NASCAR is a governing body, not a sport. NASCAR governs a class of professional drivers of a type of car. It falls under the heading of motorsports. Auto racing is no lessa sport than horse racing, cricket, baseball, blah, blah ,blah.
Drive 500 miles in 130 degree heat at 180 mph with 42 other drivers doing the same thing and try not to wreck. BTW- you will also need some strategy concerning your fuel supply and dealing with car problems and wrecking. Do all of this with neck harness around you and tons of other safety gear, and THEN GET BACK TO ME. I THINK YOU WILL CHANGE YOUR MIND.
Now go away. This ain't your forum.

Any type of motorsports is very intense and physical. The only sport that I can think of that comes close is basketball where you are constantly moving. Although some motorsports are more so then others.
Try keeping your concentration for 2 hours straight in 150 degrees F car interior while negotiating other cars and precision pit-stops communicating with your team while you are tightly strapped in? I think of myself physically fit and have raced in a couple of karting event races for and hour straight. Over the hour I could feel my concentration and physical abilities start going away. It was alot more difficult to do then doing 2 or 3 sprint races with 15 min breaks inbetween.

Here's the definition:
sport (spôrt, spōrt)
n.
Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.
First off, since you say NASCAR isn't physical activity, tell me, then, how exactly do you drive YOUR car?
Do you steer that car with your mind? No? Yeah, I didn't think so.
It takes physical activity to steer a car. And since this kind of racing requires someone to steer a car around the track, it'd be pretty hard to say there's no physical activity involved in NASCAR.
Second, NASCAR has plenty of rules and customs. There's no arguement there. So NASCAR obviously fits that part of the definition.
Lastly, if NASCAR isn't consider competitive, I don't know what is. This sport is nothing but competition. There's competition to win a race, there's competition to win the Championship. It's everywhere.
I'm really sick of people like you, who keep coming into the NASCAR section and asking the most idiotic questions.
Yes, NASCAR is sport. No, there's nothing you can do about it.
If you don't like it, don't watch it. Plain and simple.

Hockey match? Never heard that one, always heard game.
How about you drive for 5 hours with your windows rolled up, your a/c off, at 100 mph (I'll make it easy for you). And lets do this in July. In the middle of the California desert. With your only stops being about 95 miles apart for 14 seconds.
Sound easy? Notice how I haven't told you to turn your car yet. And notice I haven't given you any opponents. There will be 42 of them.
Notice I haven't defined the track. Banking of 20 degrees, 1.5 miles long. 334 laps.
And you are wearing a full faced helmet. And firesuit, which doesn't breath. And gloves.
But you do have Gatorade or water to drink, a couple gallons. So at least you have that comfort for yourself.
And I just made it easy on you for this example.

how is RACING considered a sport?......SPORT:An activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively.
Race Drivers are more physically fit than most "ball players" (baseball players) since their job requires full concentration for miles going 200 mph and high G force on each corners for some. So it's not surprising to see after the race, that these guys are not only PHYSICALLY tired they're most likely MENTALLY drained for the day.
So for those people who's not familiar with MOTOR SPORTS, avoid "smart" answers.

I allow you to comprehend what, get on your automobile on a one hundred degree day, roll up the living house windows, turn on the nice and comfy temperature, & then force round for 4 to 5 hrs. Now please do not ignore that you do not ought to address going one hundred eighty + mph with 40 2 different autos all round you doing a similar element (do you even comprehend how a lot air is being displaced by technique of a automobile going that quick). Now i have were given a question for you: How come golf is considered a sport? Bacically easily all and multiple that could want to stroll can do it, in basic terms pass to any usa club & watch all those previous adult adult males play it. definite some human beings are large at it & some are poor yet all of them can play. Now if you're saying it really is a stupid comparision then how a lot sillier is it to study someone going one hundred mph (it really is in basic terms 25 to 30 mph above highway speeds) on a highway to someone going one hundred eighty +? by technique of how please do not factor out activities & ESPN at the same time, the individuals at ESPN imagine that poker & warm dogs eating contest are both activities.
