I was googling some things and I found an article about these dogs called Bully Whippets, born to normal Whippets but have some strange genetic mutation that makes them gain muscle mass. Take a look at this:

Wow, once everyone finds out about them, they're going to be the new Pit Bull. Aren't they scary?

They are real. It's a genetic mutation.

Here's another good pic. I definitely would not want to meet up with this dog.

Actually they are sweeter and more mild mannered that the average whippet (known as a fairly wimpy breed). It takes special care to get a good quality of life for the dog with the extra muscle mass so this is considered majorly undesirable by whippet breeders. At the moment we don't actually know what dogs are carrier of this (you can't tell by looking) There are attempts to get a available test to avoid carrier to carrier matings with the goal of never having one born again.
PS this is NOT common- an extensive national search found a total of 8 "Bullies"

FYI-a bully whippet is not a cross, it is a purebred whippet with a certain mutation that increases the musculature. They are generally accidentally bred when it isn't recognized that the dam and sire both have the recessive gene that causes it, so I'm not sure how you'd find one. If the dog has one copy of the gene (heterozygous for it) then the dog is extra fast, and usually slightly more muscled, and so are recognizable. I'm also not sure why you'd want one, as you already mention that they don't live as long, and approximately half have an overshot jaw. You can try contacting some local breeders and rescue groups and ask them for any leads they might have, or to contact you if they hear of one. Now that the genetics are better known, I'm not sure they are ocurring as often.

Yuck! I would seriously doubt someone would want to use them as the next pit bull...whippets are not aggressive like that...and that one in the picture is darn right ugly!
