i just installed open office and want to open a file with openoffice but a windows pops up with lots of selection. what should i do?

Right click on a .doc document file and select properties. It should say near the top on the general tab opens with. . . Slect change. On the list find openoffice writer and check the box that says always use this program. Click ok and ok again. Double click on the file and it should open using openoffice

to open a windows office document in open office , if the document is in my document, then open openoffice click on file open, goto the folder it is in, and click on the document file name and it will open... if you want it to be saved back as a windows document you will have the options to save it as windows .DOC or a openoffice doc.
