Wow, sorry to hear about the new neighbor.
Well if you go to your local gun range there are numerous safes you can get.
Reasonably priced, and safe.
Where if I may ask are you?
California has a lot of ranges where they sell safes, you can try a local wallmart/hunting store such as Turners.

The comments about Australia are crazy. They absolutely were originally a Gun Nut nation and protested when their government wanted to take them away. However, they have not had a mass shooting since 1992 as a result and the Australians (even the ones who protested) will now tell you they feel much safer. In addition, not all guns were taken away; people still have hunting rifles and if a bad guy or boogie man broke into your house, you would still be able to do plenty of damage with a hunting rifle. My point - do we really need every American to have access to machine guns and sniper rifles? Can't we restrict specific gun access and only make hand guns and hunting rifles accessible? Just saying.

A friend of mine has a small "quick release" safe with a hand imprint on it, with buttons where your fingertips would go. You push the buttons in a certain order and it slides open -- perfect for those hurried times, or in the dark, because you don't need to see it to open it. He keeps a loaded Browning in there.
I don't know what the name or cost of it is, though. You should investigate it online. JD is right -I've gotten some great deals on shooting stuff through the Sportsman's Guide.
And David, who recommended that you don't jump to conclusions, is also correct. Be sensible about it - don't let the politician panic-mongers control your head and make you assume your neighbor is an evil perv. They use that sort of hysteria to pass laws to take all of our rights away.
But being sensible ALSO means to be ready to protect you and yours. By having firearms, and looking for a safe, you are on exactly the right track.
Good luck to you, mom.

They have small gun safes at places like Wal-Mart or even online that can easily accomodate two guns and are quick to open. One thing about purported "sex offenders". This category is very, very broad and can include crimes such as merely being two years off the mark from the age of your sex partner among other things. This DOES NOT mean that you should be off-guard or complacent with this individual as a neighbor.
Always keep an eye on your kids and teach them about predatory people. People jump to the pedophile category/rape category/molestation category automatically when they hear or see the word sex offender. A lot of people are scaring themselves to death due to internet access info and their worst fears. These offenders have been living among us for the longest time and the key is to teach your kids. A lot of internet commandos will give me a thumbs down, but this is the truth.

You didn't mention if you have handguns or long guns and that will obviously make a difference. I recommend Sentry Gun Safes to all of my customers that have small children and Toddlers in the house. They aren't expensive, and they can be bought online at Cabelas.com, Sportsmanguide.com. You can also find them at Dick's Sporting Goods, Bass Pro Shops, Gander Mountain, and Sports Authority retail stores (chain-stores)

see the link...Cabela's has a good selection; note the difference between SAFE and CABINET. One is somewhat fireproof and made of thick steel. Depending on where you live, you could talk to a locksmith- he might know of a less expensive way to go.
If a Class One moved in next door...aren't they restricted in housing so that they are not near children ? Ask a cop.
Good luck.

Walmart has a gun safe that will accomodate 2 handguns for approx. $18.00. You can secure the safe to a wall if you like. It has decent steel guage and a cylinder lock. This shouild work for you and it has a great price.

I bought a brinks safe for about 90 bucks at walmart.com. I could not get on walmart's site due to maintenance but did find this one that may work for you. I would also look at walmart though. I got a simple brinks safe with lock and keypad.
