Oh my goodness......I was sure old enough to know better. I left boiling eggs on the stove and went to church. I remembered them after Sunday School while I was in the choir singing. I quietly slipped down and drove home.
What a mess I had. Thank goodness my husband had gone in his truck so he had a way home. He still laughs at the time he come home from church to find me scraping eggs off the ceiling. (poor dogs ran upstairs and hid under the bed. Guess it was quite and explosion!)
nfd♥ still cooking!
I HAVE ENJOYED READING these answers so very much, thanks for asking this question!!!!!! Wish I could star you more!!!!!

Ha! I never told anyone. I was 19 and in the military living on the economy in Turkey. I decided one day to roast a turkey in the over. Not knowing how full of fat these things are I put it in and left it to go while I drank some beer and then proceeded to fall asleep. I awoke to tons of smoke and fire licking out of the over. The grease/oil from the duck had overflowed the pan and dripped on the flame below causing it to flame up bigtime! All I had to put it out with was Borax soap powder! I grabbed handfuls and threw it into the oven! Boy, what a mess and what a smell. I've never slept and cooked again!

I was 30 plus. My boyfriend wanted popcorn. Now who doesn't know how to pop corn, especially when you are old as I was. Well I did pretty well until somehow the pan caught on fire. Tried putting it out. Took it outside and was trying to beat the fire out. It wouldn't go out. After the water was dumped on it, it still was lite for about 5 more minutes. I'm still laughed at, and only can make micro pc.

I was like ten. My parents went out and left chicken leg quarters baking in the oven. They told me to turn off the oven and use a pot holder to take them out when the timer went off, if they were not back by then. I was watching tv in the living room waiting to hear the timer. But it didn't go off. There was a light covering of smoke in the house . So Mom and Dad come home I'm sitting on the floor wtaching tv waving a hand in front of my face to get the smoke wawy. They asked me why I didn't check the chicken. I told them, you told me to wait until i heard the timer. I went off just about them. Yes I still get teased about that today. But I did what they told me to. We wound up ordering a pizza as the chicken was black.

I always make salad dressing using "good seasons" and we use balsamic vinegar not white. When i was 8 i saw we didnt have the balsamic and asked my mom what to do, she said to get a bottle labeled "vinegar" and pour it in. I did it and i HATED it and threw the whole thing out, and got in trouble for being such a picky eater BUT later my mom found out i'd used "vienigar" instead which was a really strong type of vodka.

My 11 year old daughter did this about 6 months ago (and yes... I still tease her about it). We were making chocolate chip cookies and I let her put all of the ingredients in the bowl. Of course.. I wasn't paying attention. When we tasted then I thought we were both going to get sick. She used salt instead of sugar... UGH!

I was a teenager visiting my grandmother and she taught me how to make homemade donuts w/biscuits. Well, while she was out one day I decided to make my cousin & I some donuts which of course calls for lot of oil heated up. Needless to say I started a grease fire and had to call my grandmother and she talked me thru getting the fire out. No major damage, just fond memories.

When I was eight, I made a batch of brownies from a recipe in a magazine, only I misread the recipe and added two cups of salt instead of two cups of sugar. Then I cut them into perfect little squares and proudly offered them to my brother and his friend even before I'd tried on myself. My brother's friend didn't want to hurt my feelings, so he managed to force down the entire brownie. Of course, when I tried one myself I realized what had happened.
And yeah, I still hear about it. Fifteen years later, when my brother's friend introduced me to his then-fiancee, she blurted out, "the brownie girl!"
