If you have the facilities available to you a good experiment to conduct is one showing how the presence or changing concentration of greenhouse gases affects the ability of the atmosphere to retain heat. It's pretty easy to do and is a simple way to show how changes to levels of greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmopshere affect temperature. Have a word with either your physics or chemistry tutor, they'll know if the equipment is available and how to devise the rig.

The best science project is one that would actually make a contribution to scientific knowledge and maybe end the scientific debate about global warming.

Researchers are currently conducting a quality survey of all of the weather stations used in GHCN. The all volunteer effort is being led by Anthony Watts. Watts presented preliminary results at UCAR, a gathering of climate scientists in August of this year. A lot more stations need to be surveyed.

The website reads:
"Your help is needed to document the measuring environment and equipment condition of weather and climate monitoring stations worldwide."

"Anyone with a digital camera, handheld GPS and and basic observation and reporting skills can contribute to this database."

This can be done by a high schooler. Go to the URL shown below and find a weather station in your area that needs to be surveyed. Talk to your teacher about borrowing any equipment you do not have. Teachers have a way of finding equipment to borrow for this kind of project.

Most importantly, you will know you have had a part in resolving the debate about global warming!
