The way I've heard Sherri Dew and President Monson, and several other general authorities (top church leaders) explain it really shows how this is not a misogynistic practice - quite the opposite actually.

To sum up, they said that generally speaking women are naturally born with great abilities to love and nurture others, our spirits are naturally more in-tune with things of the gospel.

Men, however, need to be given an opportunity to serve others to be able to learn what women already know. That is why men are given the priesthood, it only works to serve others (not themselves as there is no money involved in their service, and a man cannot bless himself, only others) and it gives them a chance to spiritually catch up with us women.

Why does everyone feel the need to question the Mormons on this sort of thing?

I am a Catholic, and there are a lot more of us than there are Mormons. Only men can hold the Catholic priesthood also, so maybe you should feck off, leave the Mormons alone, and start questioning other denominations as well.

Mormons are not the only denomination that limits the power of women within the church.

But I think it has something to do with the fact that women have no business even speaking in church. Well, that's what 'God's word' would suggest.

I don't really understand why a woman would want to take part in such sexist conditioning.

The bible say,s for women to not usher authority over the man,and she should keep silent in the church,s as say,s the law,and for minister,s to be the husband of 1 wife, and by the
way I am a Christian.

Because women are suppose to be already spiritual, but then the men won't listen to the women if they know anything about a spiritual nature, so us women who are suppose to be superior are still inferior.

We probably won't fully understand "why" in this life. But I think things are going very well in the church the way things are. Good question.

Because women don't hold the priesthood, men do...

Why can't men have babies?

Because God said no.

Works for me.

I don't particularly want it. I have enough responsibility raising my children.

Same reason Jesus wouldn't let women be disciples, or whatever.
