When you are in an extremely hot environment your contacts can actually fuse to your eye and detach your retina?

Firstly, if a contact DID fuse to your eye it would only be to your cornea so would have no impact on your retina. Its possible that if you were in very hot enviroment it may dry out the contact making it difficult to remove. In this case you would want to put some lubricating drops in your eye to make it easier to remove. In this circumstance 'fuse' is probably the wrong word.

Your fear possibly originated from the myth that contacts lens become 'fused' to your eye if you weld with them. This myth originated quite a few decades ago when a welder had their contacts 'fuse' to their eyes. It later became evident that they were fused to his eye not because of the welding but beceause he had been chronically overwearing them. That said you should ALWAYS wear appropriate protection when welding and if you do suffer welders flash you should remove your contacts as your cornea is comprimised.

If you work at a blast furnace in a steel mill, you wouldn't be allowed to wear contacts...or if you have your face in a hot oven all day, it isn't a good idea. (Like a baker for instance)but that is because it will make the lens dry out and become very uncomfortable.

Welders don't wear contacts either, or take a real chance if they do. A flash can make the lens fuse to the cornea, and require surgery to remove.

The contact lens sits on the cornea at the front of the eye, and has nothing to do with the retina, at the back of the eye.

So actually, your question is not true.
