I work for a company named Puronics. We do the filtration for NASA. The shuttle takes up 3 days worth of water, can be up there for 2 weeks. The water is recycled over and over again, yet we can guarantee 100% pure water every time they drink it.

Our inhome water treatment division is the only one in the world that is EPA registered and we warranty for life.

I do promotions for Puronics in Florida. We protect your family and our EPA registration has been given because we decontaminate your tap or well water but do not release the toxins into the sewer for your neighbor to deal with.

Desalination plants provide much of the drinking water in the Middle East to countries on the Mediterranean Sea. Desalination plants could be built off any coast. You can also drill for well water. Here in the USA we have done a poor job in capturing rain water to use for drinking. Specifically, in MA. they have not built a major drinking reservoir in 70 years. Managing rain water is a partial answer. I live on the Ocean on Cape Cod, and I have drilled my own well into the aquifer not 30 feet off the salt water and I draw a good clean fresh glass of fresh water, so for the meantime, I am set.

To the answers above: rain water are polluted most of the time. I'd say that human technology would reach a stage where filtration would be so advanced that we could drink sea water.
