If you've ever had clogged drains, this is a no brainer.

Grease turns into a solid soon as it gets cool. You'd basically be coating your plumbing pipes on the inside with a thick layer that eventually will close up the pipe 100% and not be able to be reamed out with a plumbers' snake.

Save yourself the plumbing bill and pour grease into empty aluminum cans and stick them in the freezer till garbage pickup day. Pouring it down the toilet would have the same response, so just don't do it down any pipes.

Well, a while back I was reading an article that the county sent out to people in my city. It was regarding "FOG", or "Fats, Oils and Grease". FOG causes all kinds of problems. They had a picture in the article that showed a huge pipe they had cut in two, filled with dry, hard grease. Pouring grease down your drain can a) clog your drainage pipes and be very expensive and/or time consuming to unclog. b) it can apparently (as stated in the article mentioned above) cause even the big city pipes under streets and such to rupture....since the liquids can't get past the hard grease dried; even in a big city pipe.

Because the grease sets like lard and blocks the pipes. If you did do this put soda crystals down the plug hole and pour on boiling water from the kettle

It clogs the drain. The best thing to do is wait for it to cool and put it in a plastic bag and then in the freezer. When you go to take the trash out, take the frozen grease with you.

grease cools and hardens in pipe lines and can cause clogs over time. Try keeping an empty can around to pour it in and then toss it when it gets full.

The grease solidifies when it hits the water in your pipes and clogs them up like a cork.

Because it will clog up the pipes. Freeze it and throw it away in the gagbage when the garbage gets picked up.

Besides solidifying and causing a clog, the portion that makes it to the sewage system provides food for rats, etc....
