Not custormer service, but there is a connection line that costs. You would use it in an area that did not have a local AOL number, but ideally, not for very long.

Did you buy a computer that might have had a trial subscription to AOL. AOL used to be notorious for erroneous billing and then not cancelling your service when you called. You can look up their phone number online. Call customer service immediately and get a cancellation number. Customer service can also tell you where the subscription came from. I would insist on them telling you how they got your information. And also call you bank and tell them you did not request any service from AOL. Hopefully you can get it removed.

If you want to cancel, you would be better off doing it by letter. Be sure to insist on written confirmation that the account is closed.

AOL is notorious for not closing accounts. They give you a few months free, no matter how many times you say no. Then when the free period is over, the start charging your credit card again.

No charge...but there is a way to get AOL service for free.

Call and tell them you want to cancel and they will offer you a free month or two. Right before the month is up call um and tell um you want to cancel again. They will try to give you another free month. One simple phone call every month or so and you can get it free for awhile. After so long you will get to someone who will actually cancel it.

When in doubt about a toll free #. go to pay phone and if it goes thru then it's free, if they request a fee, just hand up.
