I'm new to this whole thing and i want to make my pictures really cool can you give me some pointers to the tools of what they do and stuff

Not in this format, no. The software is much too complex to give lessons here. But you should use the tutorials built into the software. Look on the toolbar under Help or maybe it's in F1 (I don't have the 6.0, I have the CS so I'm not sure where it is). You can take lessons right on your PC from the Adobe site.

If you want to just "play around" with some cool effects.....open a color photo on your canvas and select "filters"....there are many to choose from and they all do something cool.

It's not just the tools, but also the menus that run across the top. You can crop, adjust levels, apply creative filters, add text. Merge parts of one image onto another, making a montage or collage. It's a pretty old version, having been superseded by version 7, CS, CS2 and CS3. If you can find an old guide that would be a help. Some things remain similar in the newer versions, but much has changed.
