We will land at LAX in the morning and we want to go to Hollywood to do some touristy things there and eat lunch (not a whole lot of money but some) then go on to our hotel in Sherman Oaks. Will you tell me the best way to go?

First, rent a car. You'll need one. And a map book.

Then, from the airport, get on the San Diego (405) Freeway, heading north (not south). Get off on Wilshire Blvd (east) and head east to Beverly Hills. Stop at Rodeo Drive and window shop. Drive north up Rodeo Drive to Sunset Blvd and make a right (east) on Sunset. Enjoy the mansions you see, then you'll enter the Sunset Strip with its big billboards. Stay on Sunset until you come to Highland Ave. Turn left (north) on Highland and go a few blocks north to Hollywood Blvd. Hollywood & Highland is the new center of Hollywood. Park in the garage at the Hollywood & Highland center, get out and explore the area. See the stars' footprints at Grauman's Chinese Theatre, the Walk of Fame sidewalk, the El Capitan theatre, etc. For more detailed directions, go to http://www.seeing-stars.com

Afterward, head east on Hollywood Blvd to the Hollywood Freeway (it gets a little sleazy at this east end) and take the Hollywood Freeway north to the Universal Studios Hollywood exit. Get off. Pay $10+ to park, and see the Universal CityWalk. (If you want to stay all day, see Universal Studios itself.)

After that, get back on the Hollywood Freeway and take it north into the Valley (where you'll find Sherman Oaks). When you get to the Ventura (101) Freeway, take it west (about six miles) to Sherman Oaks.

That's a lot of driving. Don't be surprised if you encounter traffic jams. Avoid driving during rush hours.

OK I will give this question a try. I work at LAX. To get to Hollywood...3 ways...#1. Take a shuttle like supershuttle or primetime shuttle. You can get them under the Orange sign at any terminal. #2. Take a taxi (most expensive) or #3. Take the MetroRail system. The price is $5.00 for an all day pass. Under the Blue sign, take the "G" shuttle, its free, to catch the Green Line, then the Blue line and then the Red line. The station is at Hollywood Bl and Highland Ave., right next to the Chinese Theater and lots of touristy stuff to do. Then you can take a taxi to your hotel or get back on the MetroRail to North Hollywood and then take a taxi to your hotel. Go to the MetroRail Website on the Yahoo search line. kingsleydr60@yahoo.com if you have any more questions...

Come on guys this is a tourist for God's sake..I know you are trying but jezzz....Alison, Rent a car, ask car guy how to get on La Cienega Blvd. Take it ALL THE WAY to West Hollywood and then go east on Santa Monica and you will be in the vacinity (turn north on Highland, go 2 Major Sts. north) You will be there.....Later when you are ready go to Sherman Oaks, go east on any street, you can not miss the 101...(It runs N/S there)...Go North on it, it will take you right there..
