I have a little *6'* net to catch bait w/ but I'm horrible at throwing it. If I use the over the shoulder style, I ususally get a partially open net and very occasionally a fully opened net. The hip method is just a horrible mess. :( Any tips or suggestions?

It's like throwing a disc in the Olympic games. You want to turn your hips half way around with your right arm fully extended. I usually start my spin forward when the weights hit the back of my legs then I twist forward and release. If there is a lot of baitfish in the water, you don't always need a fully open net.

It would take 2000 + words for me to describe how to properly cast a net. (Sorry, don't have time to write a book today! lol)

There are some cast-net "aids" on the market you could try to help you get an open "circle" when casting. Call a sporting goods store or Bass Pro and they might carry it.

Hope this helps somehow? Good luck!

I always throw it from the hip. Its all about motion and the way you hold the net, hard to explain. Practice makes perfect :)

I have found that it is easier to throw larger nets, the small nets can be a real pain

The last time I threw a net I was 6 years old and grandpa got mad cause he had told me not to, and I forgot to hold on to the string so he had to wade out in the water to retrieve it.

sorry this wasn't helpfull, just wanted to say hi :)
