Where can I start? There are many who hate the Mormons and spread lies, distortions, and conspiracy theories about us. Others think they understand Mormon doctrine because of "what they've heard," but are actually misinformed.

1. We are Christians.
2. We do consider Christ to be the divine Son of God.
3. We do not worship Joseph Smith.
4. We do not practice polygamy.
5. We are not racist. (My wife is black for heaven's sake!)
6. We do believe in the Bible.
7. We do not all live in Utah. Most of us do not live in the United States.
8. We do not believe we can grow to be greater than God.
9. We are not simpletons; many of us have advanced degrees and hold positions of prominence in academia and the community.
10. We are not opposed to science.
11. We are not the same thing as the Amish.
12. The word "Mormon" has the correct number of m's. There are two. People who make this joke are never as funny as they think they are.
13. Etc, etc, etc.

OOhhh...

How about...

1. We are not a cult. Unless you define cult as a religious group of people. Then we all belong to cults. If it is meant in a satanic way, then no, we are not satanic.

2. Nothing weird goes on inside the temple. So orgies, naked bodies, or animal sacrifices. The temples are open to the public before they are dedicated to Heavenly Father. And only worthy members can get a temple recommend and attend. The recommend expires after 2 years. Inside the temple we do baptisms and sealing to link families for time and eternity.

3. Our underwear is not magical. They represent the same thing a priest's or nun's holy garments do.

4. We do not believe non-Mormons are going to hell. We believe all mankind can and will be saved through the atonement of Jesus Christ.

5. We DO NOT BELIEVE that God had SEX with Mary. The thought is rather funky to say the least.

6. Lucifer and Jesus brothers?! DUH! We are ALL God's children. So we are all brothers and sisters.

7.We read and study the KJV of the Holy Bible.

8. We do practice birth control.

There I don't think any of those are duplicates. The LDS church's members are great people. We respect the laws and other people and how they want to worship. Wish we received the same respect sometimes.

Thanks for the question.

Kolob is not a planet that God is on, it's the STAR that is closest to where God is. And, no, we don't know where it is on any star chart.

There has NEVER been any TESTING of DNA on anyone to either prove or disprove the Book of Mormon. Some guy who left the church used some results of other DNA testinig for other reasons, and decided that this was proof enough. But there are DNA experts who are also LDS and they say, you can't prove or disprove any book of scripture from DNA.

We do not believe that the Celestial Kingdom will be men with many many wives, having eternal celestial sex and the women being eternally pregnant, and popping out those little spirit BABIES. That disgusting cartoon on youtube is from "The Godmakers" which one ecumenical group called "religious pornography".

Joseph Smith was never convicted of any crime. Supposedly there are records that say he was, but all they say is that he appeared before the judge, and paid court costs of some $2 and change. Oh, and BTW, those court records? They were stolen from the court house by an anti-Mormon named Wesley Walters. And he refused to return them until the county he stole them from brought a law suit against him. Now, how much can you trust THIS man?

The problem is not outright lies, more that people tell (and believe) half-truths about our religion. They'll get a little piece of doctrine and misunderstand it and twist it and make it sound crazy. Or they'll hear a half-truth and since we can't deny a half-truth they'll accept the whole thing as truth.

Anyway, the things that people think but are not true about us that bug me the most are:
1.We don't believe in the bible. Or that we think the Book of Mormon is more important than the bible.
2. We place Joseph Smith on par with Christ. (We don't. Christ is our Savior)
3. We worship Joseph Smith
4. We are not Christian

And that's just a start. They're are so many weird things floating around about us. People should at least check www.mormon.org when they want to clarify our beliefs.

Lots of the main ones covered already...
hmmm...
1. a lot seem to claim the Book of Mormon has been changed many, many times...
when all that has changed is the additon of proper puntucation pretty much...and they count those as "changes"

one word was changed from "white" to "pure" I believe...or vice-versa...because that is the way Joseph Smith had it translated originally, and when that was discovered it was put in there correctly.
chapter headings have changed too, I think, but not the actual text except as noted above.

2. also people claiming we "can't" do certain things....we are indeed free...we "CAN" do anything we want to do...it is just that there are consequence for doing certain things that we don't want to experience....I mean I technically could smoke and drink...but why would I want to?...there would be no benefit to me and I would offend God and lose my Temple recommend and the privelge of going there, and I would lose respect from my peers etc., etc...but other than that sure I could do it...but certain actions just become illogical after a while...but it doesn't mean we "can't"....we just choose not to.

I am reminded of a lesson from brother Holmes (a good Momon I knew)...he was in his office and another guy told him that he wasn't free because he couldn't smoke, then brother Holmes asked him for a cigarette, and for a match or a lighter, then he put the cigarette in his mouth and was about to light it...then suddenly he stopped and took the cigarette back out of his mouth and said "I could smoke this" then he set them on the guy's desk and said..."lets see you NOT smoke them!" the guy said something like "that's crazy"...and then grabbed a cigarette and smoked it....but really...who was more free? was the guy who was addicted to the nicotine/ smoking really more "Free" to do whatever he wanted to do? was he "free" to stop if he wanted to?

1. Mormons can drink coke. The only drinks that are not permitted is coffee, tea and alcohol.

2. Although some mormons are racist, there is no doctrine currently taught by the church that prevents any race from achieving any station or goal on earth or in the hereafter. (anymore)

3. Girls CAN go on missions, although socially, many are discouraged from doing so. And if they do get a mission assignment, the girls are older than the male missionaries.

Gee dude? Where should I start?

That's an awfully big question.

- Polygamy: not practiced by the LDS church. Offshoots that do practice this are 'apsotate' groups not associated with the church.

- we don't believe in Christ: Give me a break!! Is that why we call it The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints?

There are SO many more...

We DON'T have horns

We DON'T practice polygamy

We CAN and DO watch use electricity, watch TV, use the internet(obviously), etc.

We DO eat meat

We DON'T worship Joseph Smith

We DON'T worship any of the other prophets....only Jesus, God, and the Holy Ghost.(but mainly God...obviouly)

We ARE Christians, we DO believe in the divinity of Christ, we DO believe in the Bible, and we DO believe that Christ is the messiah.

There are so many more things that we are oh so wrongly accused of....but these are the main ones...

I've spent approximately 40 years in bishoprics, top councils, and clerk positions, and I've visible a quantity of folks go away the Church. I've sat on a quantity of disciplinary councils. None of them left the Church in view that of "proof" towards the Church. There are a few who simply regularly waft away into inactiveness. Sometimes it's in view that of a lack of religion, prompted by means of doubts brought about by means of anything they have learn. One of my brothers used to be like that, despite the fact that he has for the reason that come again to Church. He did not desire to inform me approximately his doubts in view that he had turn out to be satisfied that there used to be no reply to his doubts, and he did not desire to burden me together with his doubts. It is simply too dangerous he did not speak to me, in view that there may be consistently an reply. Part of his challenge despite the fact that used to be that he used to be watching for a intent to not cross on a assignment, and "blindly" comply with the instance of his older brothers. It used to be partially a satisfaction challenge. I have a idea approximately people who go away the Church and declare it used to be in view that of proof. They fall into 3 organizations. (one million) Some are actually burdened by means of the arguments of guys. (two) Some seem for proof the Church isn't precise, however deep down they realize the truly intent used to be they have been indignant or they felt responsible approximately their sins. (three) And others do not fully grasp their possess reasons. In a psychology magnificence I as soon as took I heard of an fascinating test concerning this 3rd institution. A character in one other psychology magnificence used to be hypnotized and given a submit-hypnotic notion. The hypnotized scholar used to be informed that after the instructor coughed the scholar could rise up from his seat and open the window to the school room. He would not don't forget whatever he used to be informed whilst hypnotized. He used to be then wake up from his hypnotic trance and informed to return to his seat. The scholar remembered not anything of what he used to be informed whilst hypnotized. The instructor after a couple of mins coughed, and the scholar received up and opened the window. Now here's the factor of this tale. When requested why he opened the window his mind instantly synthetic a intent. He stated he used to be sizzling, and unusually adequate his frame proved it by means of getting purple and sweaty.
