Depressing and I don't like the eagle so much either but if it means something to you enough that you want it tattooed on your body FOREVER AND EVER than why not? Go for it. In 20 years when your youth has flown far and beyond are still go to want that? What about the eagle?
Have both the images/words how you would want them tatooed exactly on your body, put them in a drawer for 6 months and see which one you get sick of first and if you still want it then go get it tatooed on your body forever. Just take time and think about it first.

I prefer the eagle (of course I am an American, so go figure), but not strictly because of that, but because an eagle will be a symbolic conversation-starter between you and all who view it (depending on where you have it placed), but the capability of a saying to elicit a response will be limited to those who can read English. I can't tell you the number of times I've encountered people from all over the world who have a "dragon" tattoo (or who want to comment on mine)...and from there springs the most stimulating conversations because this symbol means radically different things to different people. I suspect the "eagle" will do likewise for you.

Sounds like you have your mind up about the eagle so you should go for that. Personally i'd have words. Anyone that says word tattoos aren't real tattoos are doesn't make for a good tattoo doesn't know what they are talking about. Word tattoo's are the most powerful tattoo's you can have because it's there for all to read. An image tattoos could have 101 different meanings.

The eagle can be made one of a kind. The quote may have meaning, but is exceptionally long for a tattoo.

excellent answers so far
personally i don't care for either of the ideas, but so what.
while i'm not exactly discouraging your tatoo idea, it would seem to me that you --even in your youthful soul-- should feel rock solid sure about the words or image you are planning to live with day after day, year after year, for the rest of your life. I would wait until that happens before undergoing the process

you could get an eagle with the quote inside. I like the eagle Idea. Because the quote seems like it's long, and it would be expensive, and plus it would probable heart really bad.

It doesn't sound depressing, but quotes can make for pretty bad tattoos. I suggest getting an eagle, as there's a lot more you can do with that (sizing, creativity, et cetera) and any quote can be rather cumbersome.

I like both a quote and an eagle.
The eagle should be regal, clutching a banner that says:
"Death before dishonor."
