hot dogs and bologna are not healthy for dogs. You should be feeding him healthy dog food. I have a chi as well but he is only 4 lbs and he eats like a great dane! They have so much energy they burn off a lot of calories. Some do grow larger but let nature take its course.

The Chihuahua Weight Chart is great to use as a guideline to estimate a mature weight within a quarter of a pound or so. This table is used only as a guide, as many things can affect the mature weight of a puppy. Weight may vary depending on its bloodline, genetics, how well the animal is fed, etc. Weight estimates before the age of 8 weeks old are often inaccurate because the puppy is still nursing or being weaned and may be heavier due to fat from the mother's rich milk. This weight chart only works with purebred Chihuahuas. The weight chart is from a book called "The Complete Chihuahua Encyclopedia" by Hilary Harmar, Pub. 1972, Arco Publishing Co., Inc.

MY sister has a 21/2 pound chi that plays with a schnauzer that is very hyper and 3 miniture poodles.

Bologna and hotdogs are not the best for dogs and you are not giving the correct nourishment.
He shold be on a good quality puppy food ( dry is best) You shouldn't give him all that junk food it can cause a lot of health problems.
Talk to you vet an see what he says about your dogs weight is it good or what. and he can help youwith ideas to get him to a correct weight. YOu don't want to make them fat as this can put a lot of stress on hte heart and again cause many health problems.
Hope this helps

That is unhealthy for a dog that small. And you shouldn't be feeding him people food. Ask your vet about how much a regular and healthy weight for a Chihuahua that age. If it's less, leave him the way he is. If it's more, ask the vet if there is a special way to make your dog gain weight healthily till the right weight.

As someone else said, chihuahua's are small and if they carry excessive weight they can stress and fracture they're legs.

You want to be careful if you keep feeding him all the junk meat(hot dogs and bologna), it is salty(dogs can get hypertension), it could bother his stomach and it is not a good idea because he may get picky and not eat his dog food, and he may get overweight and that is not healthy.

He is only a puppy and he will grow more. He should be finished growing by 10-12 months old.

Take his weight at 12 weeks old and multiply it by 2. That should give you an estimate of his adult weight.

Chihuahuas should only be up to 6 pounds anyway.
If you wanted a larger dog you should have gotten a different breed.

Hot dogs and bologna?
Yea might as well give him a coke to wash that down.
You are the purpose that he is not gaining weight.
Feed your dog DOG food. Only human food you should be giving him is fruits, veggies, chicken and liver.
That does not count for ALL veggies and fruits there are some they can't have. First of all why do you want a 10 pound dog?
He won't even be able to play he will just become lazy and obese. Sounds like you are not ready to become a dog owner nor parent.

I wouldn't feed him hot dogs, as we all now what goes in there... I wouldn't push him to gain weight if he's at a healthy weight right now, since 2 extra pounds on a 10 lb dog is 30 pounds of extra fat on a 150 pound person. I think an obese chih can get over 10 pounds....but who would want their dog to be obese?

You could try the Satin Balls. They are suppose to help dogs gain weight. 10 pounds hamburger meat [the cheapest kind] 1 lg. box of Total cereal 1 lg. box oatmeal 1 jar of wheat germ 1 1/4 cup veg oil 1 1/4 cup of unsulfured molasses 10 raw eggs AND shells 10 envelopes of unflavored gelatin pinch of salt Mix all ingredients together, much like you would a meatloaf. Divide into 10 quart freezer bags and freeze. Thaw as needed and feed raw!

First of all stop giving him hot dogs and bologna; he's not getting the nutrients he needs to grow strong and healthy. The standard Chi's are very tiny but I've also seen some at 6-8 lbs.
Good luck!

Please feed your dog a balanced HEALTHY diet of a quality dog food and skip the junk. Have you ever heard of any human getting healthy and gaining lean muscle mass eating hot dogs adn bologna? That's a horrible diet for a human and and even worse one for a dog - let alone a pup.

A healthy pup, fed a good quality dog food that is exercised properly, will develop a nice muscular body. He can play with any other dog he wants.

Bologna isn't good for people, it's not at all good for a puppy, and never for such a young puppy.

Dogs get as big as their genetics tell them to be. You cannot increase size by feeding fatty horrible foods. You can make sure that your dog reaches the size he is meant to be by making sure you feed a good quality kibble and keeping him healthy and well exercised, plenty of clean fresh water.. But feeding him junk food isn't going to help him at all, if anything you are putting him at risk by feeding him fatty garbage meats.
