Do you worm on a routine basis, or take fecal samples in yearly??
Do you show or do performance events and are more concerned about parasites??
Do you rely on Interceptor or the like for parasite control?
Do you use garlic or some other "natural" remedy for parasites???

(we are just talking intestional parasites now...no fleas and ticks!)

I use Ivermectin, Ivomec 1% on all of my GSD's every month year round. I do use a dose of 1cc per 100 pounds of body weight, which is higher than what is in Heartguard. I am not as concerned about picking up internal parasites at shows as I am about picking up fleas and kennel cough at shows.

Puppies should be dewormed at 2,4,6 & 8 weeks of age and then periodically there after.
It is advisable to take a stool sample in at least twice yearly to be tested..more often if your dog eats "gross" stuff.
Heartworm preventative is good but doesn't cover all types of worms.
