Why does the Catholic church refuse to accept birth control?
Why do we continue to destroy rainforests to raise cattle when the grain it takes to produce one beef burger could feed 40 people?
How can we as a species ever create a world that works for everyone?

For those who ask why I blame the Catholic church...I don't, I am just posing a question?

Birth control has always been an intrinsically immoral practice since it works against nature. Animals have enough sense to appreciate and value fertility and offspring - why don't humans get it?

I appreciate and applaud the Church's continued stance for life. And YES there is enough room on this wonderful mother Earth for all of us. The world's entire population could fit within the state of Texas with room to spare.

Overpopulation is a myth and propaganda spread without basis in fact.

The problems of starvation are related to distribution and political turmoil. It is the wrong actions of dictators that is responsible for so much suffering, not the Catholic Church.

How can we make a better world? Jesus Christ told us to love one another and do good to everyone, even our enemies. This is a good place to start, don't you think?

Wow, you have several big questions here that need addressing.
First, the Catholic Church does refuse to accept artificial birth control. Are they doing this for their own purposes? No. They are simply following the ways of Christ, as they are the Church established by him. This belief is not popular in the modern world because self-gratification and selfishness is more important than doing the right thing. BC is a grave concern because it is basically outright defiance of God and his plan for human sexuality. Again, not popular in the world , however, truth is not a popularity contest that changes with the times. Truth simply is.

Second, I agree with you that it is foolish to destroy rainforests and raise cattle to feed people. As a Catholic, I get really annoyed when people are destroying the beautiful Earth that God gave us, for no good reason. There is enough food in the world to feed everyone, the problem is that it is not distributed properly. If anyone is interested, you should look up the Catholic Church's Teaching on Social Justice and Distributionism, it is amazing how many people who are not religious would agree with it. So we could feed all the people in the world and thousands more each day, but we do not distribute. 20% of the world has 80% of the worlds resources. We need to look into our own lives and examine what we do to help distribute our wealth and to help those starving in our own neighborhood and worldwide.

Third, I do not think it is up to us to create a species. Our species has already been created. What we do need to do is try to better how we treat the world and our fellow humans better( this goes for all people in the world )

"Why does the Catholic church refuse to accept birth control?"

It isn't our place to decide when life starts and when it doesn't. That's for God to decide.

"Why do we continue to destroy rainforests to raise cattle when the grain it takes to produce one beef burger could feed 40 people?"

Good question. I don't know how to answer it but I can see where you have a point.

"How can we as a species ever create a world that works for everyone?"

I would love a world with that kind of peace the same as you, but I think it will only happen when Jesus comes again, and then everything will be perfect.

God bless.

1) Because there are other ways to control the population growth than through birth control. They consider contraception a sin. Why should someone suddenly condone what they consider a sin simply because it's convenient?

2) You do know that rainforests don't produce grain either, right?

3) Dpends what you consider "working for everyone." If we culled half the population, things would be considerable better for everyone left. If we forced people to stop having babies, that would alliviate some of the stressors. Or here's one: we could stop providing aid to people who have been living off of food drops in the Sahara for years. That might give them the hint that you can't survive in the Sahara.

The fact is we have billions of people living in areas that cannot sustain current populations. Kind solutions don't really fix the problem. Natural solutions are considered by many to be draconian (such as letting them starve, which is nature's way of restoring the balance).

First of all, the Catholic church refusing to accept birth control will have nothing to do with the 40,000 children starving to death every day. The children starving to death are mainly in countries where Catholicism is not the main religion.
Secondly, rainforests also do not provide food for starving children. The cattle that are being raised do. And grain is generally not grown in the forest.
Lastly, all we can do is try to change the world around us. If we begin to do what we can to make the world a better place it may begin a ripple effect. All you can do is try right.

Most children who are abused and starve death, do NOT come from Christian homes. Also, it is our job to feed those kids, and to help them. Stop blaming God, I sure don't see you out there making a difference! 1 John 3:17 Proverbs 22:9 Hebrews 6:10 Philippians 2:4 Luke 6:38 John 15:12 Matthew 25:35-40 Hebrews 13:16 Galatians 6:2

The real problem is over-population and until all people realize that we are in for trouble. And it will only get worse.
The starving children pictures you see on TV have been there for over 50 years, a continuing problem that no one wants to address. In the Sudan you see a young woman with a starving family of 7 or 8 children.

Birth control is the only answer. Either now, as a free choice, or later when there is no choice. One way or the other birth control will be the norm.

It isn't as simple as that There is enough food to feed those children ....Most of the starvation is political .Governments shooting at aid workers delivering food, or stealing it right off the docks to be sold in a black market. You can't blame it all on Catholics..and birth control. Developed nations over use of resources and pollution is a much bigger problem than just Cattle production. Our use of electricity, the wasted from our plastics and just our trash is unbelievable. I think we will destroy ourselves in our own waste long before we ever get along.

As for the statistics the Canadian Goverment estimates a child dies every three seconds from the effects of poverty..1..2...3

If castration is the answer - why not start with you?

Besides it is a fact that decreasing the population leads to other unforeseen consequences of which many will suffer in the coming years.

An increasingly larger workforce means more people can work to produce food. Alternate food sources are available, but we need manpower for technology to develop. So instead of murdering babies in abortion and castration, better to let the population grow. The people that are produced are not necessarily as naive as you are.

According to the UN every 5 seconds a starving child in the world will die; that works out more than 40,000 a day....

1 minute = 12 children
1 hour = 720 children
1 day = 17,280 children
1 week = 120,960 children
1 month = 483,840 children
1 year = 5,806,080 children

This is just the children, and these figures are out of date; the new estimation is higher.

Sad, huh?.......And what are you doing about it? .......What am I doing about it?

Roman Catholics believe that life begins at conception. "The Pill" prevents a fertilized egg from implanting in the womb. Other methods (barriers such as condoms) prevent conception. From the RC perspective the purpose of marriage and sex is to make more Roman Catholics. (Over simplified and slightly humorous)

BEEF! It's what's for dinner. Really though. I dont know either.

I believe we can a world that works for everyone, but only when we begin to see that EVERYTHING is connected to everything else.
