you do not say how old the cat is..

cats that have had kittens can go on producing milk for up to a week..

prior to giving birth they produce a watery white liquid..

I would say that it is rare for a cat that hasn't previously had kittens to produce milk ... but it is possible. You can get phantom pregnancies and if there is a kitten around that could stimulate an adult female to produce milk..
if in doubt take her to the vet..

They only produce milk when they are pregnant. The milk usually begins to produce a week before she will give birth and continues until the kittens are weaned.
You need to take your new cat to the vet to be checked for any illnesses and obviously to check if she is pregnant.

This just makes me think of that scene in "Meet the Parents" (Ithink that was the one) where the guy was talking about milking cats.

No, cats DO NOT produce milk randomly.

A female cat will only produce milk after she has had a litter.

The female cat will only produce milk after it has a litter. Cats use they're mammary glands, like all female mammals to feed they're young milk. After they don't need it anymore, they will stop producing milk.
