I am watching a friends dogs this weekend. She feeds a holistic natural canine formlua by Bench and Field. It says it uses "free range chicken" and the ingredients contain chicken meal, ground brown rice, whole ground barely, chicken, dried beet pulp and other vegis and fruit like dehydrated apples and blueberries.
Does anyone use this food or know anything about it?

I am sick to death of the "sugar" thing. Beet pulp may contain sugar. So do blueberries and any other fruits that are in dog food. Is natural sugar a bad thing???
I have friends that feed B&F to their 12 Shelties. They love it and have been feeding ti for a while. The dogs look great and have been healthy. They speak highly of the food.

I don't know anything about it "now".
When I was growing up in the 70's and early 80's my mom would drive 45 mins to a distributor of this stuff and buy it for our dogs. It was expensive back then.
We were the "freaks" who didn't feed our dogs Dog Chow like everyone else. But then I grew up to be a dog nut so go figure. I would imagine for the time, it was the equal to all the small brands everyone talks about now.
I don't know what's in it now. I'm sure you can find out.
Good luck. I just know it's been around a long time. We had nice healthy dogs as a kid and believe me, they didn't have nearly the vet care mine do now. I'm sure diet had something to do with it.

Ol' Roy is Ol' Roy...slapping the word "Professional" on the package does not make it a better quality food. Ol' Roy is about the worst possible food you can find, full of fillers and crap with no real meat in it at all. People use this brand of food for ONE reason, because it's cheap. Ok, maybe two...it's cheap but it is also (only) available at WalMart so it's convenient for many people to grab a bag rather than making a specific trip to a feed/pet supply store just for pet food.

My son (he's not a vegetarian, but I am) says that "free range" means that the chicken's feet touch the ground. They can still be in a cage and stuff, as long as their feet touch dirt or soil.
If someone's looking for a "humane" and "natural" feed or food (which I'm guessing is the target market for B & F) my son (age 15) says "'cage free' is what you want to look for"
Just an FYI.

Here's some info on it:
http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/showproduct.php?product=344&cat=all
I personally would not feed it. Why?
1) two grains as 2nd and 3rd ingredient
2) not well-known brand--well-known ones, but good, ones like Nature's Variety are better
3) beet pulp-contains sugar, do you really want to feed your dog SUGAR in his daily diet?
Edit: Grmph, who gave me a thumbs down, and what for?
