I have my resume blasted on every site and I am getting nothing. My little brother was killed 2 1/2 months ago and I was let go right after I got back from the funeral (even though I was told by my boss that everything would be fine when I got back). Granted I was there only a month and was never written up or had any evaluations done, when I asked why I was being let go all I got was the "This is a right to work state." I am not sure if I am getting a bad reference from my old job but I can't even get temp agencies to call me for an interview. Any advise would be more then welcomed.

Go back to the old company, and ask them to write you a recommendation. While you are there, you can ask if they have any new positions open. If they don't, then you can guilt them a little bit -- tell them how you couldn't find a new job after they let you go BECAUSE of the death in your family. That may not be strictly true, but it might help get you a good letter of recommendation.

Another possibility -- go to the last school you graduated from. The guidance office or your advisor should be able to help you find work in your area of expertise. They have many more connections than a website will.

You might think about going back to school, too.

Two and a half months isn't much time to mourn. You can show how bad you are feeling to your old employer, but for any new employers, you are really going to have to stuff your sadness into the closet for the interview.

Good luck, and keep trying.

get a head hunter to find you another job or go with a temp agency to get your foot in the door at another company

get someone at your previous company to give a reference that will provide genuine information
