I really wouldn't even want to guess this one. Take these pills and wait 10 days is not satisfactory though. This child needs a second opinion ASAP. If you can't get him in to somebody in private practice right away bring him to a hospital that specializes in peds or has a peds wing. Best of luck.

Thyroid, diabetes, stress. There are lots of things that could be causing this.
There is no point trying to figure this out over the net... you will only drive yourself crazy. Keep talking with the doctors and ask questions. Determining what is going on will require some patience.

Hi Char. CDRN gave you excellent advice. Your nephew's condition is very serious and should be taken seriously by a competent doctor. "Guessing" at the diagnosis and trying 10 days of antibiotics is a serious mis-judgment by that doctor. Seek more testing by specialists NOW. Best wishes and good luck.

A four year old losing weight is alarming to me. He needs further testing and not in 10 days. I would take him to a hospital that specializes in children. Take him to the emergency room and that way he will get the attention he needs. Good Luck........

Trust your doctor- he will get to the bottom of this. If your doctor gives answers you are not happy about, trust your instinct and get a second opinion.
All the while remember that kids are all different and grow up differently.
Be persistent and judge your instincts.
