Ask her doctor to refer her to a Nutritionist. Exercising alone wont be enough, also remember that muscle weighs more than fat.
Because she has a thyroid disorder, this means that you will need to be patient and understanding. Its not her fault that the weight is there, blame her darn thyroid.
Why dont you take a nightly walk with her. One, it gives her support to exercise, two it gives you alone time. Talk about when you were kids, or dreams that you both have. Do NOT talk about her weight. And if she wants to end the walk because she's tired just simply say "Okay babe, lets head home".
And remember the reasons why you married her. Its the inside that will keep you going.
Wish you both luck!

If your wife has a thyroid disorder, then she should be taking medication for it.

Exercising three times a weeks is fine, but if she wants to lose weight, she will need to change what and how she eats also. There are hundreds if not thousands of diet plans out there on the internet and in the book stores, but the basic premise is that you can't over eat every day and expect to lose weight.

If you are losing interest in your spouse because she has gained weight, well, I don't see much of a future for your marriage..........

find daily calorie intake calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 400-600cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours - it optimizes your metabolism)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day (have lots of veggies to eat in between meals if you are still hungry)
8 glasses of water -carry bottle of water with you and when you feel hungry drink it - we often confuse hunger with thirst (our bodies confuse it)
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have protein (lean meat, legumes etc) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio is the only fat burning exercise and burns fat all over your body (running, jogging, swimming, spinning, elliptical etc) 4-6 times a week for average of 45min, light weight training a few times a week (more muscle=faster metabolism)
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, pasta etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, ice cream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
of course you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

If she's also sleeping more than usual, her doctor can increase her synthroid dose.
Another thing to try is a different workout. Most women tend to do more aerobics (running) when they need to do weight training. Weight training won't drop her weight much, but it will drop inches. It will also protect her from osteoporosis.
Men need to do more running, because it protects against heart disease and lowers your pressure.

Why would you get married if you didn't consider the possibility of her becoming a fattie? Almost everyone does a complete 360 in the looks department by the time they're 50.

Anyway, you should be worried about her HEALTH, not her looks. I guess you don't love her. =D LOL
