I heard a teaching many years ago about the day being very specific. It had to do with Daniel's Prophecy of the 70 weeks in Daniel 9. Beyond that, it was too many years ago that I heard it.
Daniel 9 does give a specific number of days from the order to rebuild the Temple to the coming of Messiah.
I'll be watching this question...

Daniel 9:25 is key; from Darius' and Artexerxes' day: the release from Babylon and the command to rebuild Jerusalem, to Palm Sunday is THAT specific number of days mentioned in Daniel 9

Palm sunday would have been the 10th of Nissan (that year), the day the lamb was brought in to the house. (Ex 12:3) This puts the cruxifiction on Thurs.( Nissan 14, Ex12:6) instead of Fri. , alowing 3 days and nights till the resurection Sunday morning.

the palms have been layed out for jesus to commute because of the fact it grow to be raining and the peaple had to make and nice path for him and the donkey to guard him from the dirt so this may well be a reminder of that factor.
