Just wondering. Some people say yes and some say no. I always thought you could, but a friend of mine said she got a ticket last week for doing so.

The officer told my friend the light turned red while she was in the middle of the intersection. She entered it on a yellow, so she probably entered it on the tail end of its yellow phase.

This is a catch all, which most people don't catch. Red means Stop. Green means Go. The only time you can drive through a Yellow light, is when it is flashing. The Yellow light is only the interim between the Red, and Green.

Entering Intersection On Yellow Light

It is illegal to be in the middle of an intersection. Period. If the lane you want to be in is full because the light up ahead is red and people are stopped, then you should wait for the traffic to clear before you go on. If this means you have to sit thru another red light until it turns green again then that is what you should do.
Just because your light is green does not mean it is safe for you to go. If going means you are going to stop 2 feet later and block the intersection, then yes, you can get a ticket.
If the light changes to yellow before you get to the intersection then by law you are required to stop if you can safely do so....note please that a yellow light is NOT a signal for you to speed up and race thru the intersection!
You should be able to find answers to this and other questions regarding traffic laws at your local DMV office.
You might also want to consider taking a defensive driving course. It really will teach you how to be a much safer driver as well as refreshing your memory of when you took drivers ed in high school.

You can enter an intersection on green or yellow but if it turns red before your car is out of the intersection you will get a ticket.

YES YOU CAN ENTER.
WEATHER YOU GET THROUGH THE INTERSECTION BEFORE THE LIGHT TURNS RED IS ANOTHER THING.

KIND OF LIKE TIME TRAVEL AND SPACE.

THE AVERAGE YELLOW CAUTION LIGHT LASTS 3 SEC BEFORE TURNING TO RED.
IF YOU HAVE ENTERED THE ZONE AS THE LIGHT TURNS YELLOW THEN IF YOU SPEED UP A LITTLE YOU WILL PASS THROUGH IN THE ALLOTTED TIME.

IF THE LIGHT TURNS YELLOW AND YOU RUN IT YOU MAY NOT MAKE IT AT A NORMAL SPEED. YOU WOULD GET CAUGHT THUS A LIABILITY TO BE CITED FOR RUNNING A RED LIGHT.

THE CALL IS ON THE OFFICER TO WARN OR TICKET.

IF YOU HAVE TIME TO STOP SEEING THE LIGHT TURN YELLOW THEN STOP AND AVOID ALL CONFUSION.

If you mean drive through an intersection on a yellow light, it depends. If the light turns yellow, you are supposed to stop, if it is safe to do so. If you are going too fast to stop (if you cannot stop safely) then you have to go through cautiously.

No. In my city each picture is reviewed before a ticket is issued. The rule is as long as you were already in the intersection before the light turned red, you don't get a ticket. So you should be good.
