Thawing chicken in the refrigerator is definitely the best and safest way to defrost chicken. However if you need it faster than that you can try this: Fill the sink with enough cold tap water to cover the chicken and place the wrapped or tightly bagged chicken in the water. The water should be changed every 30 minutes. DO NOT USE WARM WATER. Even though it will thaw the chicken faster, it will also cause the growth of bacteria. Do not use the sink for any other purpose during the thawing period and be sure the thawing water does not splash onto other preparation surfaces or food. Once the chicken is thawed, remove it from the sink and clean all utensils and surfaces with hot water and soap.
The problem with trying to defrost chicken in the microwave is determining the correct defrosting time--microwaves vary widely.
And of course, be sure to thoroughly cook the chicken once it is defrosted.

Definitely NOT!! Not even in cold water, you have to be careful about chicken, although it is in the UK, safe, there are certain bad people who break the law, don't take chances. It must be thawed at room temp, or better still in the fridge overnight..

No. use cold....it thaws much quicker. Just let it stand in cold water over night and it will be perfectly thawed for when you want to cook it.

Nooooooooo!!!!! Raw chicken is a high risk food, it has to be defrosted properly, preferibly inside a fridge overnight.
Can't begin to tell you how many people get food poisoning at Christmas because the person who cooks forgets to defrost the turkey in time.

It depends on the thickness of your chicken but regardless i wouldn't recomend thawing chicken in this way.
Why not do it in the microwave instead.

No only cold water. If you use hot water you will start the cooking process. Then microbes and bacteria will start to grow and you could get sick.
