no way! i guess it really depends on what your eating habits are like and the portions of food you regularly consume. it's cheaper for my family to buy groceries than to eat out. we only buy staple items like fruit, vegetables, pasta, dairy items, and canned goods about once a week. if you keep with the store brands and buy things that have a long shelf life, then the it's worth the few dollars you spend. i'd say i spend about $50 a week and get 25 meals out of it. i eat to live so i don't require a whole lot of food which has actually done me good. i feel better because i only eat fruits, veggies, and dairy and all of those things are pretty cheap. i guess if you only eat once a day, then eating out would probably be financially doable. i think the trick to affordable grocery shopping is to look for deals, only get what you need and what you know you'll eat. a lot of people spend twice the time they normally would because they get caught up buying impulse stuff at the grocery store like chips, snacks, frozen stuff like taquitos. i prefer not to eat out except for maybe once in a while because i always feel like crap afterwards and am pretty health conscious.

$500 a month for 2 people for groceries sounds like a lot of money. Eating out is definately not cheaper. Even if you eat at mickey ds 2 times a day each that would exceed your $500 and its not exactly the best food for you.

I guess that all depends what you buy (grocery wise) and where you eat (fast food is the cheapest of course).
But I still stick with the groceries and get things and sale. Cooking more and saving food in tupperwares for later save me much more money (and you eat healthier too).
thats the way to go!

Wow ,thats a huge amount of money! I spend $600 a month and that feeds 2 adults, 3 kids and a baby still in nappies. It costs us at least $30 to eat out so there is no way we could afford it. All depends on where you live I suppose and what cheap food outlets you have around. At least you save on washing up!

Well, to a degree. The only way I can save on groceries and still eat out is if I only buy fast food $1.dollar items. That gets tiresome.
