I can understand trolling, but come on, that's just sad.

The worst part is 90% of the people who answer think it's a legit question.

Here's an example: John Galt
here's the troll question: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AmWga9Vj4weANhVslXnsj8zsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20071013130045AAyJJ8W&show=7#profile-info-HAo8IBYqaa

Here's another question, which proves he's a poser:

Why pose as a Christian, why not just be a regular troll and ask jerk questions?

larissa- i've seen Christians doing the same thing, but it's usually something like "da dur, i'm a stoopid Atheist"

usually the Christian posers are a little more mean spirited.

I would never do something like that...

I believe that satire is a legitimate form of expression. I would not be offended by a Christian satirizing atheism. If you think that's just too juvenile (as many people do), then when you spot the trolls like Galt, avoid them. No offense to John Galt (who is John Galt? -- ha!) but I didn't think his "Hell" question was very good satire. But then, I'm guilty of some uninspired satire myself.

By the way, you're one of my favorite Christians, Quailman. If all Christians were more like you, I probably wouldn't stoop to satire. Sorry if I've ever offended you.

even with the very undeniable reality that i do not have a particular religious perception because there is purely NO way of understanding, i trust they don't. Christians more desirable oftentimes purely look and sound stupid because they don't use actual good judgment. christianity has taught lack of expertise and intolerance which has led to genocide for over and millenium. Atheism is a miles more desirable likely idea than christianity. i could imagine it changed into trolls, yet I actual have talked to hardcore christians in actual existence, and it truly is ridiculous: "there's a god" "how did you understand?" "because god loves me." "how could you likely understand that?" "because the bible says so." "How did you understand the bible isnt mendacity?" "reason Jesus wrote it. he's the son of god, so he wouldnt lie." See? purely to make sparkling, Im not an atheist or a christian, somewhat of each and every thing sortof

He's obviously being extremely sarcastic. It becomes very obvious when he says "Hell" three times in a row. But maybe it's just obvious to me because that's kind of my gig too.

I will say, though, that I really do expect people to realize that I'm being COMPLETELY facetious. It's disappointing when Christians don't "get the joke."

And to answer your question, the point often is, for me at least, to point out to Christians how ridiculous they sound while having a little fun at the same time. And often times, I ask a question in the guise of a Christian that presumes certain Christian "truths," and atheists get the joke, but Christians either whole-heartedly agree with me or correct me, when all the while, as far as I was concerned, the joke was completely obvious.

So I don't think there's necessarily any extreme malevolence involved, just a good sense of humor and maybe a little lack of respect for certain fundamental Christian beliefs and attitudes, i.e. being able to accept a God that could morally justify burning even one person in Hell for eternity. I have a hard time even having any respect for fire-and-brimstone-forever type Christians, especially the ones that try to justify the idea that infinite torment is just punishment for sins committed in a finite life.

Some of these people are just imbeciles. They think it's funny to do all this posing.
There is another one who's asked about 7-10 questions today. It's obvious this guy is just making fun of Christians. Hopefully, these are mainly kids.
It would be even sadder if an adult were acting like this.

Oh, it's pretty much the same as for any troll. Since they have no life of their own, they try to make an impact in the world by causing as much hate and discontent as they can online - as though any of that actually matters. This being the R&S section, posing as Christians or Muslims or atheists or whatever is as close to logical as they get.

Actually, Christians do it all the time, too, and they're not all just "da dur, i'm a stoopid Atheist" questions.

And the reason that some people don't pick up on it being a troll is simply because that's exactly the type of thing we hear from *real* Christians all the time. If I had a dime for every time someone told me "I can't wait to see the look on your face when you're standing before God, and he asks you why you didn't believe in him, and you're like "duh duh duh...' " I'd be rich.

Posing in either direction is stupid and useless. I would never do it. I'm who I am: a formerly-agnostic Christian with an unusual fascination with Islam.

Is that Greg guy really one of yours? Because I certainly don't want him representing atheism. And GEG and Chosen by God, and hmm...there are a number of trolly christians that I don't think either camp wants to claim.

Satire, on the other hand, is completely acceptable.

Eh, there have been some obvious non-Muslims posing as Muslims, non-atheists posing as atheists, etc.

Just answer their questions and "out" them as being fakes. Not just the non-Christians, but everybody.

Me? I don't really care about it anymore.

Why not? If he doesn't believe in what you so fervently believe, he'll feed off of how offended you guys get. And probably even more by acting like he's one of you. If you just ignored his questions instead of shoving the bible or we in his face(some christians are like this) then he would probably not get any joy out of it and stop.
