Yes. We do not solicit or reject callings. It is the role of the branch president to assign you a responsibility. He should interview you and understand your needs. He may call you to something you have never done, or in which you have little interest. Accept the calling, because you may need to learn and grow from it. If he happens to call you to something you enjoy, that is great, but next year, you make be doing something else. The president or bishop my be working in the primary next year, too. Remember a calling is from the Lord. No calling is unimportant.

You got baptised? Fantastic, congratulations!
My husband served with the Young Men for years and loved it. He really wants to be called back there, but it's not up to him, it's up to God.
However, you could speak to your Branch President and say that when he is considering people to submit to the Lord to call for Young Men leadership, would he think about submitting your name because you'd be interested. That way you haven't actually asked for the calling, you've just asked to be remembered.
I am our Ward's Young Women President. We have 15 Young Women and it's hard work. When I was called, Bishop told me he hadn't wanted to call me since I was newly married, but he submitted name and name to Heavenly Father and each one came back with a "No", so finally he prayed about me and I was a Yes! I've been doing it a year now and I love it, it has been the best calling I've ever had.

If you would like to help with the Young men's by all means ask him if you can help. If you want the calling that is another question altogether. It would depend upon your age and your priesthood, his feelings about calling you to that position. That is one calling that takes a lot of your time and is a lot more than just giving the lessons. One of which is are you a good example to the young men in the ward? Are you very knowledgeable about boy scouts? There are a lot of different aspects to being the young men's leader than teaching the lesson's

Hey! I think that it would be okay to ask the branch president about the position, just to let him know that you are interested. If you are the right man for the job at this point in time, you'll be called. If not, maybe there is something else coming in your near future.

Congrats on the baptism.
You shouldn't ask for a calling. If that's what you're meant to have, that's what you will be called to. It's interesting how it works sometimes though. For me, in the past it has been the very last calling I would have ever thought of. The thing is, in a calling, you should be serving other people and contributing to their spiritual growth. If that's the first and foremost purpose of your calling, you will grow as well.

actually, too many youthful adult males have been occurring missions as a results of fact of kinfolk and/or peer rigidity, and not as a results of fact they have an definitely testimony of the church. yet, i've got heard that bishops are meant to commence searching down those youthful adult males. I even have 2 sons, 20, and 18, and that i'm unlikely to place any rigidity on them to bypass on a project. It could be THEIR decision, not mine!

You can try, I was once called to be a baseball coach hhahahahahahah, I can't play sports for diddally squat, so I promptly declined in taking this assignment for the mormon church, i can't even catch a ball or jit one with a bat for crine-out-loud, so to be a coach, please, I flinch when they throw me the ball. If you feel your calling is elsewhere the worse they could do is say no. Some people hear better from God then others. ex-mormon. Later they gave me another calling for which I was better suited for.

You don't ask for calling. Plus you don't want this calling in the sense that you have not been called of God to serve in this calling. It is in-proper "etiquette" to ask for a calling especially such a big one.
