I admire some of it's teachings. But I doubt if it is peaceful or it ever was!

Islam is a religion.
Religions are bodies of beliefs and practices concerning mystical or metaphysical ideas.
People are peaceful, or not.

Pretty much in every conflict going on in the world today you will find the Muslims predominantly on one side.

Ancient History:
7000 years ago Abraham the father of both Arabs and Jews came to Palestine as a refugee from Babel (Iraq) he dwelled amongst the true and native people of Palestine as a guest.
6500 years ago Joseph son of Jacob took his father and brother to live in Egypt as guest as well.
3500 years ago Moses immigrated toward Palestine with the Jews. He crossed the Dead Sea but never entered the land of Palestine as he died in agony of what his people have committed of sins. Later on, the Jews defeated the native people of Palestine and slaughter them and established their kingdom.
Then came the Nabakanthzer took them into slavery to Babel. Where they were brought back by the Persian then for another time vanquished by the Romans out of Palestine.
Conclusion:
Never have they been prior to own Palestine than its native people.
Never have they lived in peace by their own demise.
Never have they been prosecuted by the Palestinian to begin with.
And they only lived in Palestine at those frequent intervals in peace under the companionate spirit of their neighbours.
Recent History:
After centuries in Diaspora, where they claim to have been prosecuted. They use the imperialistic powers that were occupying Palestine to establish their new (self proclaimed) "homeland" on the Palestinian's lands. Under many pretexts; among which, "the land was empty of population", "God granted this land to us" and "We are the chosen ones…so we own the whole world" to mention examples. They had established the most modern state of terror. A state on other peoples lands and property. A state that practice all kinds of hatred and prejudice. A state that kills children and senior citizens and find excuses for that in an eye blink. A state that hinders the global search for justice and peace. A state where being different means being on the hit list. All fuelled with mythological claims of superiority over all other humans. And a mentality of arrogance and hatred toward global harmony.

Maybe because they consider the rest of the world as their rightfully owned slaves by the wish of the "All mighty"

Maybe because they can twist the truth with their arsenal of double loyal compatriots of religion in other countries specially here in the US, with their control over the money and mass media
Maybe because they have convinced our senators and political leaders under intimidation and promised support from their lobbies, that Israel's interest is superior to ours
Maybe because we give them more than 3 billions of our tax payers' money for them in aid and get in return the hostilities of every other human in the world for supporting such a brutal terrorist regime
Maybe because they have made us a rouge country in the UN and made us use our VITO countless times to cover their crimes

Yes Islam is peaceful religion.
It teaches to live peacefully and let others live peacefully regardless of their race, religion or national origin as long as they don't offend you for no reason.
It also teaches to forgive if you can who hurts you.
It also teaches that if forgiving some stupid offender encourages him to hit you again, then hit him as hard as he hit you first. Hitting him harder than he hit you will make you offender. God doesn't like offenders.
It teaches to be strong and well trained to defenc your country, your religion and your way of life. It teaches not to turn your cheek to enemies but to fight with them with your full strength.
It teaches that If God gives us wealth, He tests us to see if you will use it for the betterment of mankind or will waste it in luxurious life or to exploit weaer people.
God gives us strong body to test if we use our physical strength to take care of our responsibility, defend our loved one and our religion or we use it to hurt, to dominate, to enslave and to exploit weaker people.
Read history of Islam in Library books or on internet. Asking questions on Yahoo Answer won't get you much knowledge about our people or our religion.
