I've heard neosporin (and other tribiotics) are a bad idea, as they have vasoline in them (which can pull color out of a new tattoo). Plus, some people are allergic to it in larger doses, like what you'd use for a tattoo. I just use eucerin or some other non-scented thicker lotion, sparingly.
On the other hand, I always recommend that people listen to what the artist or shop recommends. They should be the final word.
As for itching, yes, it's very normal. Personally, I find it far worse than the temporary pain of getting the tattoo. Slapping the area to make the itching less of a problem it what I do. Just make sure you don't put on too much lotion/moisturizer as that can make you break out in an acne like effect (which also itches intensely).

For my smaller tattoos they were maybe like a 4. But for the outline of my half sleeve I'd have to say the itching was about a 10. It didn't start itching until maybe 2 or 3 days after I got it when it was starting to peel and flake off. My god it was unbearable. Not pain, just unbearable ITCHYNESS! And I couldn't touch it! What helped me though was rubbing fragrant-free non-greasy moisturizer lotion on it (with clean hands) when it would get insanely itchy. It would relieve it for a while. The itch lasted me for maybe 3 days and than it went away. It was definitely a hard time, but very worth it :) I still have 2 more sessions for my half sleeve (shading and coloring) and I'd have to say I'm looking less forward to the itching than the actual pain. I'd take the tattooing pain any day. Don't let that discourage you though, remember it's only temporary :)

It is normal for a tattoo to itch like a ***** when it is healing. Also, neosporin is not recommended for tattoos because it's a petroleum product which can drain your tattoo. If your allergic, you develop red bumps, and once they are gone, they pull the color out of it and leave you with a spotted tattoo.
My artist's aftercare instructions were:
Wash it once everyday.
Put some nonscented white lotion on it 3-4 times a day.
Do not pick or scratch.
Do not expose it to the sun for two weeks, after two weeks aplly a sunblock of spf 45 or higher to keep it protected.
Tip: to keep it vibrant after it's healed, apply lotion to it every night.

yeah it's a part of the healing process. You should really use A&D ointment on it. It' better than neosporin. that has a tendency to pull the color or ink out of the tattoo. So when it's finished healing it looks a bit dull! So use the A&D ointment and when it itches i used this trick alot- use ice! place some ice right over it or somewhere aroudn the tattoo not directly on it. It tricks the body into ignoring the itch. So for awhile it wont itch. it actually soothes it a bit!

Itching is totally normal. It's because you skin is dry and scabby. Just don't scratch.
You should stop using Neosporin immediately. Products like Neosporin and Polysporin are designed to pull foreign cells out of you body, like tattoo ink and bacteria. You should only be using an unscented body lotion, like Lubriderm, or a tattoo cream, like H2Ocean. Apply a thin layer 3 times a day.

Yes itching is very normal for any tattoo. I have a few tattoos myself, and what i found that helped is a baby washcloth (wet or dry) will do just fine if rubbed SOFTLY over the tattoo!

Yeah, thats normal...after the scabs fall off you can start putting lotion on it...but don't scratch it, if you do it can pull out some of the ink...hope this was helpful.

just keep it covered in lotion at all times, when mine would itch, I'd "rub" lotion on it-I avoid scratching it. (as of scabs, try to let them fall off on their own, then lightly brush them off don't pick them, or you may pick off the ink in the skin)
