I would hate it if somebody came to me and let me know I am going to have a child. Maybe the girl did not want a child. Where is her free will?

When could she have said no? Gabriel did not ask a question, did he?

That was clever how you stuck in the word "just" in that sentence.

Gabriel presented God's plan to Mary. Mary freely accepted His plan by saying "let it be done unto me". God never forces His plan on anyone. In God's Church, Mary is considered much more than "just a vessel". She is honored above all the other saints. In manmade denominational religion she is often ignored completely or even denounced. I wonder how Jesus feels about such treatment of His mother? I also wonder what these people do for their own vessels on Vessels' Day?

No it is not offensive that women have equal status with Heavenly Father as creators of life. Jeremiah wrote that he was fore ordained to be a prophet. Since Mary was foreordained in the pre-existance to be a mother, she had free will in all that happened.

No. She was also the first believer in Jesus as the Messiah, and so is a model for all other believers that followed.

"Just a vessel?"
The most blessed vessel ever, to have carried Jesus and to have His care entrusted to her during His youth?
At he very least, it should be Vessel with a capital "V."
As long as we remember that it was not Mary who died for our sins, we can give her the honor due her. Let's not go beyond that and call her Co-Redmptrix like the previous Pope.

I will outline Catholic beliefs about Mary :

Mary, as are all who are saved, was saved by the blood of Christ. She is the greatest of Saints and her prayers for us are efficacious. She is a fully human creature and not in any way a goddess.

She is the Immaculate Conception who was filled with grace from her first moments, she is the Ark of the New Covenant and the New Eve

Mary is the "Theotokos," or the "God-bearer," the Mother of God

Mary remained both sinless and a virgin her entire life

Mary was assumed into Heaven by the power of God, where she was crowned Queen of Heaven

Her soul magnifies the Lord (Luke 1:46-55)!

Please do a little more reading. In the bible, Mary stated to the angel who revealed that she was chosen by God to bear the Messiah "let it be done to me as you said, behold the handmaid of the Lord".

Every young Jewish girl knew the prophecy that a virgin would bear a son, and His name would be called Emmanuel. Mary knew the great honor that had been bestowed on her. And, being the God loving person she was, she recognized it as such.
