As someone who collects mugs as a hobby/passion (I have over 250 of them at last count), sharing mugs is not a particular problem with me.
However, I DO have my "personal" ones which are usually stashed away from public "access."
As for when I was a child, my father and mother always respected our personal items, and so did my brother and sister. We never "borrowed" items without asking permission first. If we did, we got into trouble. Respecting others' property was always a keystone lesson in our upbringing.
If your father continues to "disrespect" your items, I suggest you calmly discuss your feelings with him "outside" of the situation... that is... not when he has your mug in his hand! "Dad, you know that mug that I use? I see you using it all the time, and I thought it was my mug. I would really appreciate it if you would not use it, and respect my property." If he tells you that HE really likes your mug, might it be a good idea to get another one like it (if you can) so he can have "his" and you can have "yours"?
I do hope you can resolve this situation. Your parents should respect your property as much as you should be respecting theirs.
Have a polite day.

i become given a promotional mug contained in the early 60's, first interest contained in the metallic ending marketplace, become printed contained in the 50's by technique of a organization that now no longer exists. that is somewhat higher than a each day mug. that is shaped like a fifty 5 gal. metallic drum, with "Detrex chemical substances" imprinted. before a chemical organization in Detroit. Amazingly it seems sparkling. what's that-about 40+ years? i take advantage of it possibly once a week, am genuine careful with it. Been moved everywhere in the united states & Mexico.

Every one needs personal space and personal items that are for them alone, it matters not whether this item is a cup or a favourite towel, no one should use other people personal things, your dad should be taught a lesson for his ignorant behaviour, my father has the manner of a wart hog he allows the dog to lick his plate when he's had his dinner, and because he's forgetful it doesn't always get washed because it looks clean, maybe if you get a dog and two cups the same your dad wont be so quick to take liberties get my drift.

Dads do this a lot. Some of them have the attitude that it is their house and they will use anything in it, as they wish. Others just grab the first thing they see that they like and don't think about it.
I say, wash your mug in the sink yourself, and keep it in your room or hide it in a cabinet.
As for overreacting, it is easy to say yes you are, but everyone has something important to them that no one else understands.

I don't think your overreacting but did you tell your dad not to drink from it?
I find it irritating too when someone uses any of my stuff, my cousins use other peoples washcloths, towels & toothbrushes, so when the family goes on vacation I won't share a room w/ them because of these habits. Some people can't recognize boundaries, they think cause you're related you can share everything.

your being rational. i love buying and being bought official guinness t-shirts and red nescafe mugs i dont care much for designer crap but i does likes me nescafe mug. every single one i've had they have been broken or smashed by others. the last building site i was on i caught a fella i got on really well with drinking tea! (yukk) from my mug. i says "oi "C" face thats my mug ye fecker" and i'm they type of person who wouldnt say boo to a goose normally, but grrr he touched and sullied my mug. i'd love an official star trek mug like they use on deep space nine and voyager but at 20 ish quid i cant afford to keep replacing them because somebody sooner or later will break it. every official guinness pint glass i've had my missus has broke! how the hell can somebody break 6 pint glasses in a year? one was even an award made from waterford crystal in a presentation box from guinness themselves and she still managed to smash that!. but after all they are just receptacles for liquid. but even my dad knows if i caught him using my mug i'd use his colostomy bag for a dump.

If its at your home, I think its silly to be really irritated.
If its at work, why are you leaving it out for people to get it?
Since it sounds like you are at home, you need to either deal with it, or talk to whoever is using your personal mug.
Or, drink from it, wash it, dry it, and hide it.
