Below is the most widely read version of this verse, and below that is the King James Version of the same that the Phelps woman was quoting from:

Leviticus 19:17-18 (from New International Version)
17 "'Do not hate your brother in your heart. Rebuke your neighbor frankly so you will not share in his guilt.
18 "'Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against one of your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the LORD.

King James Version:
Lev 19:17-18

17 Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him.
18 Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the Lord.
KJV

Lev 19:17-18
Mt 22:37-40

Please understand, what the Bible says or does not say isn't the issue. The issue is whether it is right to protest at funerals as this group is doing. Once you made your choice, then people find something in the Bible and pull it out of context in order to make God on their side.

But who would pull 2 sentences out of context and say that it proves their point from any other text book?

If the concern was about what God wanted, they would not be pulling 2 verses out of a book of 2000 pages and say, "This proves my point beyond a shadow of a doubt."

They would be saying that the God that makes this book "living and active" is capable of answering any question.

But the real question is whether we would receive the answer He gives.
