I once made a baked chicken recipe, It was cooked with fresh vegetables, and a sauce, after it was cooked, you put the vegetables and sauce in a blender and blend them into a real nice sauce, it was my first time putting hot food in a blender, I didn't know I should hold the lid on, I turned it on, the cap blew off, and the sauce went all over the kitchen and me, mostly in my hair. Live and Learn, I made it again later, the sauce was excellent.
Any accidents in your kitchen?

Bobby Jack B, that story just takes my breath away, I could feel the pain just reading it. I'll bet your not real big on deep frying foods.

I was making fried chicken and I don't know exactly what happened I turned my back to the stove and the next minute the pan is on fire. I hadn't even put anything in the pan except the oil. Thought I was going to burn the house down.

Diana- Tell your friend she is not alone. My first thanksgiving turkey was almost a disaster. I left the neck a gizzard in the turkey in it's little plastic bag. Luckily it was removed in time and a good thing too because I had at least ten hungry single Navy sailors coming to dinner. I forgot all about that horrible mess until you brought it up. LOL

I once cooked 2 Cornish game hens for Christmas dinner, and then my family called and wanted us to come over. We were already drinking, so I turned the oven down and we took a cab. More drinks later, we returned home tipsy and I shut the oven off thinking my husband had put the hens in the fridge. It was a warm winter so I didn't need the oven for 4 days, but I was wondering what the smell was in the kitchen. I went to go bake bread and discovered the hens...crawling with MAGGOTS! I screamed, called my husband at work panicking. He said to turn the oven on and roast them to kill them. I did, all while freaking out, spraying air freshener, and holding a dishtowel over my face. Then when they were dead, I had to hold the towel over my face while I took the whole pan out to the trash bin...including the pan. Another one would be cheap compared to thinking that maggots had been on the pan and frankly, there was no way I was cleaning it!

We laugh about it now.

LOL - Lucky you were not burned.

The first time that I cooked for my husband (early in our relationship) I made Cornish hens stuffed with wild rice. I used clear cooking bags which were popular in the early 70's. They kept food moist and my mom's stuffed hens were always moist and yet crispy. I knew at the end she put the hens under the broiler to crisp the skin. What I didn't know was she removed them from the cooking bags. Thus.....we had to peel our laminated hens in order to eat them! The bags melted onto the chicken.

My friend has a even better story about her first Thanksgiving turkey. She loved basting the bird and as she basted it while in the oven she squirted the light bulb in the back of the oven and it exploded, sending slivers of glass throughout the turkey!

We have both been married for over 30 years......luckily our cooking skills have improved!

My mom was chopping onions in the blender. I was passing by the kitchen when she asked me to give her the pan with oil that she had left heating on the stove. I was holding the pan while she poured the onions onto it, the hot oil started splashing and I ended up pouring the oil all over my left arm. She had to take me to the hospital, but in the meantime egg whites helped me to relieve my pain.

It involved a terrible explosion, and blood loss from a carrot that penetrated my leg. A grotesque sight, to even the sickest person.

instead of drizzling olive oil over a seafood bake, dish soap was drizzled all over it instead(it was the same color in a similar glass bottle), quite a surprise to the guests.....pizza was quickly ordered

If you leave eggs boiling on the stove, and they boil dry, they explode! I found bits of egg for YEARS afterwards in odd places...
