I mean why do Christians and Atheists go at each others throats all the time? Why can't we just respect each others beliefs?

Well, it's commendable that you want peace. What a concept! Kudos!
But there is a battle of good and evil going on. Here on earth evil is winning. Most people don't realize that you can't be in the middle ground and survive. That's where the conflict arises. Christians try to SAVE Atheists, and Atheists don't appreciate the gesture. Christians mean well at least, and Atheists should take that as a compliment. But many Christians take it too far and piss people off. I'm Christian and I probably just pissed someone off. Oh well, what can I say. There you have it...

Because Christians have been shoving (and continue to) shove their beliefs down everyone else's throats. Atheists are just pushing back and standing up for ourselves and the Christians do not like someone standing up for their rights or their beliefs. Until Christians stop pushing others around and keep their beliefs to themselves we will never get along. Stop trying to make us into little Christians, I do not want to be saved by your God (since everything he does is evil - mass murder, rape, allows incest (Lot & daugthers), etc). I think the Christian's Satan sounds way nicer to hang out with.

I think you're lumping the outspoken people with all the normal ones. There are always going to be a few Christians that denounce everything that isn't Christian and there are always going to be a few atheists who won't stop until everyone thinks God is dead. I think the majority of both groups are perfectly fine, we just need to learn how to deal with those rabble-rousers.

I wish that Christians and Atheists would stop hurling insults at each other across the internet, but I don't see what's wrong with logical discussion. I find it helpful and interesting.

I have tried.
Please don't generalize. It is unfair.
A few people on both sides hurt the cause.

I respect everyone's beliefs.
I do not preach or try to convert anyone.

I've been told I am unworthy of anything but ridicule because I believe. A few atheists make it hard for us.
A few Christians make it hard as well.

MOST of us want peace.

No, we can't. Not to be rude, but there's a pretty fundamental disconnect between the two groups' methods of understanding the world. Better, though, that it be hashed out here, instead of in high school hallways with fists (and subsequently with guns).

I don't hate Christians that keep to themselves. But I don't like their beliefs. I use to be a christian and rehearsed verses that speak of killing those that don't worship as you do.

I wish we could. But being people, its rather hard. We're all born with weaknesses. Weither or not we choose to reconize them is the thing. Christians think if your not one of them, your a Satanist. Atheist think that if your not one of them, your a delsioned brainwashed fool. Its the circle of life.

You're right... repect for all is a necessary tenet of the faith.

A better question maybe would be "...why do atheists frequent an answer board called Religion and Sprituality?"

...could it be to "stir the pot"... methinks so! :)
