The Great Wolf is held by certain Native beliefs to be a guide through the spirit world. I have been told that the wolf is there as a guide and protector through transitions, but also to devour spirits unworthy of passing through the spirit world. In my own spiritual journeys I have observed such a presence following behind me, though I can't speak for others.

Mine's a Raven. The Raven was important in both European and North American mythologies. The eyes of Odin (Norse), the symbol of Morrigan (Celtic), often an important Trickster god and/or ruler of the night (North America). Also, in Chinese internal alchemy, "The sun is the Golden Raven." The raven is a very intelligent bird, and I even like the color.

Sophia! (Ah, I adore that name). An animal as a 'spirit' guide, eh? Well, the talking donkey, of course. Rarely does one encounter an intelligent donkey...the poor critters they are...and one that speaks, thinks, reasons...well, that is something! So, Sophia, I would choose that fellow. And if he disappoints me, I can always ride his back up to Yonkers and sell him for dog food.

My spirit guide (totem) is a hawk.
Horus is a hawk headed god as well.
The hawk represents to me the eternity of conciousness the ability to unify both the active and passive natures of divinity within myself.

I do have a spirit guide, it's the white wolf. The reason he selected me is because of my loyalty to my family and willingness to protect them.
