The simpler explanation is that flu viruses mutate and the shot you had last winter may be useless against the new and improved version of the virus. Viruses are the simplest forms of life that we know of, basically a strand of DNA wrapped in a protein membrane. They can change their genetic code in only one generation. It's Occam's Razor, the simplest explanation being the most likely.

ITS A BIG CONSPIRACY!
actually no, vaccines are changed every year because the flu virus is highly mutant and it changes its genetic coding every year and usually causes small epidemics in different areas of the world and sometimes pandemics. So each year Health professionals, thanks to them, try to find us a new vaccine that is most appropriate to give us immunity against the strains that are going to attack in that year.
Edit: Stop roaming in circles, I'm getting dizzy! LOL

Every year the type of flu virus found varies. So the flu shot is mixed to fight against the different virus that is in higher numbers

Yea, well dummie, I haven't been sick with the flue but once in the 12yrs I've been getting the shot and it greatly reduces sickness for my husband and I. I do not spend at christmas. Guess i don't fit the mold. But my kids are grown too, I just got tired of the hype.

I've been saying this for years but nobody listens. Maybe it's my wild eyes, tattered clothes, and long bushy beard. Or maybe it's the tin foil hat, I don't know.

That's cute, but I hope you realize some people are up for any conspiracy theory and will take you seriously.
