Yes, you will have to enlist in the Army to become an Army Ranger. However, it is possible to work it out with your recruiter so that you will enlist as Infantry, attend Ranger school after Basic and AIT, and then possibly serve with the75th Ranger Regiment. It will be a lot of hard work, but you can do it.

The Kevin answer has it completely right.
Bear in mind though the Rangers are the Rangers. The Special Forces are a different thing....... commonly known as the Green Berets.

You can go straight into a Ranger Battalion. Go talk to your recruiter and tell him that you want a RIP contract. RIP stands for "Ranger Indoctrination Program." You will attend infantry school first at Ft. Benning, GA for about 15 weeks. Afterwards you will attend airborne school for about a month, with the waits and all. After than you will enter RIP, which is a prerequisite for Ranger school. After RIP you will attend Ranger school. Should this be a path that you want to take you should be fully dedicated to your new profession, because there will be many times during your training that you will want to quit. I suggest you eat lots of wheaties and get in tip top shape before going to infantry school. Your next 6-9 months will be spent in training. After Ranger school you will be assigned to one of the few Ranger battalions belonging to the 75th Ranger Regiment, which is HQ'ed at Ft. Benning, GA. One last note... sometimes you will be sent to Ranger Regiment first and then Ranger school, it can work either way, just depends on school dates and how many open slots they have for the upcoming cycle.

you have to go through basic training and then infantry school, before you can apply for ranger training, you'll also have to go through Jump school. Be in top conditio because you'll be tested both physically and mentally during your training. good luck
