telling lies..being sassy, & talking back..and generally with a tree switch that I had to pick. Boy did I learn lying was bad. Got the belt when I fought with my brother, or if we didn't do our chores when we were told to, not being home before the street lights came on, among other kids things that we did. I guess we found out it was wrong when we got the belt.....5 swats for some stuff and 10 for the worse stuff. And always on a bare butt. When I got kids, and the lies....I got the tabasco.....to burn the lies off their tongues...I didn't want to do to my kids what my parents did to me.....Usually the fear of them getting the tabasco was enough for total remorse....and it became only a threat. But, they have to have it once to know the difference. Also, these had to be really big lies before I would consider the threat of tabasco.

The most common reason was wetting the bed...if only they realised that those good hidings made my bedwetting worse!

I recall once being accused of and spanked for stealing £25 out of my mother's purse, it was later discovered the guilty party was my brother's wife. Did I get as much as an apology? Of course not.

My mother has told me, on several occasions, that she did not enjoy smacking me but 'violence was the only thing I understood'.

good question..once my sister and i played hair stylist and we cut each others hair horribly..up above the ears anyways we tried tocover our tracks by putting our hair up in towels, as if wed just washed our hair..didnt work..deserved that one..then there was the time i killed my sisters golfish on purpose and the time i put fingernail polish on her new school clothes, and then once i was given a choice to get a spanking or stay in bed on a saturday afternoon for stealing 2 dollars from my moms purse..i took the spanking..i deserved all the spankings i ever got..lol

Bashing kids was a way of life in our house.
You got hit for everything, from looking at the ma the wrong way, to the tone of your voice, to getting bad marks in your tests, to not being able to fall asleep on sunny summer nights (this is true!).

i got it for lying and backtalking when i was younger, i have only had two since i was 12 (i am 16 now) one was two days before my 14th birthday and my stepmom and i had been having some rocky times. I told her that she wasnt the boss of me...i got what i deserved... then this past summer when we were on vacation my stepmom caught me and my boyfriend...''together''...i got it then too...i have never seen my stepmom or my bf mom that mad....

when i was little, my dad sent me to bed for something, cant remember what now, he had just decorated my bedroom, and i was so angry that he had sent me to bed, i peeled alot of wallpaper of the walls, he was not best pleased, i had a smack for that :-(
