It was better than the response from the Muslim Clerics.
Oh, wait a minute. They didn't get one. Put the blame of the world on one side. very peaceful indeed!!!
Edit:
Syed, My apology. I thought you wanted a straightforward answer, not a sugar coated one. My mistake.
If we ever to have peace. We all have to work on it. Not one side. This letter, is another tool of saying put the blame on the other guy. Think about not as a Muslim, but as a person who wants peace for one and ALL.
If that letter was sent to all, not just the Pope and Christian leader, it would have been fair and impartial, but it was addressed only to one side.

i think of the Pope has each suitable to particular his perspectives, even to the chagrin of people who disagree with him. extra, the perspectives he expressed mirror definitely (truly than imagined) Biblical concepts. he's in actuality basically doing his pastime. And doing it properly. That his words come for the time of as irrational to a pair human beings is irrelevant. i'm tremendously particular that if the Pope became around and suggested homosexuality and each and all the the remainder of became the terrific element when you consider that sliced bread the LGBT community could be calling him each sturdy ol' boy below the sunlight. As an atheist i think of the Pope is a lot from a sturdy source of expertise. As a heterosexual i come across it complicated to get worked up a pair of perceived insult to homosexuals. And as an earthling with a vested pastime in dwelling I somewhat like the belief of keeping the rain forests. i know of no faith that promotes acceptance in spite of life-style. the completed element of religion is to manage life-style, not compromise with it.

The Vatican said a recent letter from 138 Muslim scholars to Pope Benedict XVI and other global Christian leaders is “very interesting” and “very encouraging.”
http://www.christianpost.com/article/20071014/29696_Call_for_Muslim-Christian_Unity_'Very_Encouraging',_Says_Vatican_Interfaith_Head.htm
The Catholic Church teaches, "The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind's judge on the last day."
"It is my ardent hope that Muslim and Christian religious leaders and teachers will present our two great religious communities as communities in respectful dialogue, never more as communities in conflict."
-- Pope John Paul II, Meeting with Muslim Leaders in Omayyad Great Mosque, Damascus, May 6, 2001. http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/john_paul_ii/speeches/2001/documents/hf_jp-ii_spe_20010506_omayyadi_en.html
Christians and Muslims, following their respective religions, point to the truth of the sacred character and dignity of the person. This is the basis of our mutual respect and esteem, this is the basis for cooperation in the service of peace between nations and peoples, the dearest wish of all believers and all people of good will.
As an illustration of the fraternal respect with which Christians and Muslims can work together, I would like to quote some words addressed by Pope Gregory VII in 1076 to a Muslim prince in North Africa who had acted with great benevolence towards the Christians under his jurisdiction. Pope Gregory spoke of the particular charity that Christians and Muslims owe to one another “because we believe in one God, albeit in a different manner, and because we praise him and worship him every day as the Creator and Ruler of the world.”
-- Pope Benedict XVI, Meeting with the President of the Turkish Religious Affairs Directorate in Ankara, Turkey, November 28, 2006. http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/benedict_xvi/speeches/2006/november/documents/hf_ben-xvi_spe_20061128_pres-religious-affairs_en.html
Dialogue are already taking place all over the world. Just in the United States there is the
- Midwest Dialogue of Catholics and Muslims
- Mid-Atlantic Dialogue of Catholics and Muslims
- West Coast Dialogue of Catholics and Muslims
