To be honest I think a lot have people have gone numb at the constant being told what is good for us and what is not.

By the way the 5 a day rule is to set to be changed to 9 a day I was speaking to the Nurse at my surgery the other day and the latest research says we should be eating more so the medical council and government are about to decide where to set the level.

I suspect more than you would imagine have at least some knowledge of the principles, but it is easier and more pleasurable to them to continue as before. They are addicted to the intense flavors of salt, sugar, and fat in foods brought on by the fast food epidemic so that the flavors of natural things are bland and uninteresting to them. It takes a lot of energy to change this behavior, just like quitting smoking or drugs.

Hey, Proud, I have restless leg syndrome and I can tell you it is definitely real! My husband once counted and I kicked him more than 60 times during the night. And energy drinks aren't being marketed by physicians, they're a product of the whole corn syrup industry just trying to find another way to sell it.

The 5 a day rule some pen pushing civil servant made up? Because society is too busy eating pringles while watching ant and dec on tv to bother about healthy eating.
Ant and Dec is the opium of the people.

I don't think it's a lack of knowledge so much as people are used to eating for taste and expediency (fast food) and not for health. Many Americans weren't brought up to appreciate the value of a healthy diet, and just "grab something". Hence the obesity problem and health problems.

Everyone has been taught the 5 a day rule, at one point or another. people don't practice it for the simple fact that its too much trouble to eat that much fruit and veggies in one day. We live in a fast food nation. on the go eating dominate.
I personally take multi-vitamins myself.

I think it's more of a habit than a lack of knowledge. Most people today eat what they want not what they should.

it's not a lack of knowledge, it's a lack of wanting to eat them. also, maybe it's because of the food pyramid they changed a couple years ago that doesn't specify how much we're supposed to have, whereas the old one did.
