Has anyone ever been phoned by paypal to verify a payment? I just got phoned there and found it rather strange...

The man on the phone asked if I had just made a transaction which I had, and asked he how much it was for and that was it. I have changed my password just there, is there anything else I can really do?

Be very Careful. I am a Certified Identity Theft and Risk Management Specialist. In NO way does Paypal asks YOU to verify things over the phone. They should never ask for you to tell them account details: name, password, or even account numbers. I have heard ebay accounts stolen, credit information from a banking institution etc and never did they call over the phone (by law information cannot be verified over the phone.) They will send you a verified letter (snailmail) OR through your email account that is linked to Paypal. BUT never click on any links in the actual email. Go to the websight and sign in on your own and you should see the alert. IF you gave them any information, immediately change your password, and watch your account very closely. Depending on how much info you gave them, I would think about closing that paypal account and starting a new one. Otherwise if they have enough of your information they may be able to get back in by requesting a new password. Good Luck!

Yes they do it quite often. Nothing to be leary about. Keep in mind Paypal does not ask for personal information on a outbound call. They normally question transactions that look suspicious.

I would be very leary and not give out any credit card or social scurity number or similar info. There are so many phishing scams. I just don't trust a phone call.
