Rule of Thumb: Not as long as you are left with at least 1 gig of free space for virtual memory.

As a few have stated already, you can install as many programs as you like, but everything you add to your computer takes up some space. Even silly items like a colourful desktop background use resources. The best thing to do is really to install programs you are going to use. The time it takes to acess anything on your hard drive will be slower the more you add. Having said that, it is more impotant to disable programs you install from loading at your computers start-up.If you stop unecessary stuff from running in the background, then you should be okay as long as you have a reasonable amount of free space and available memory. I can direct you to a nice little program that is free if you would like it, this one helps free up memory that is just waiting to be clear.

Yes and no.

Your hard drive has finite space just like a trash can. The more you put in the less space you have available. I think a good rule of thumb is that you shouldn't exceed 75% of hard drive space before your performance degrades.

Secondly, it matters whether you are just installing these programs or whether they actually load something upon startup. The more stuff you keep active in memory, the less space you have for whatever real work you're doing.
So to answer your question exactly, I'd have to know all your specs and all your programs.

Bottom Line: I think the answer is YES just based on what I know now.

Yes it does matter. Filling your hard disk with programs you will never use should never be a priority. Installed programs, even when not being used, can slow your computer down. They increase the size of the registry, they may run in the background, they place an extra and unnecessary burden on your File Allocation Tables, they can clutter your desktop and make your Start/Programs Menu unworkable. Moderation is the rule. We can have hundreds of pairs of shoes, but often one pair will do. Choose your programs carefully, use them properly and don't become a "jack of all programs and master of none!"

What matters most is the amount of memory in your computer. However, disk space also play a part. More disk space mean that it will take a longer time for your computer to search for the files it needs.

You can put as many as you want but you should keep a percentage of your hard drive free. And make sure when installing programs that you customize them so that they don't run in the background or startup when your computer starts up.
That will slow down the speed of your PC.

If it a frequently used program and you want it to startup when your computer does or run in the background then that's fine. But just make sure you don't have too many doing that if you don't want to hinder the performance of your PC.

Nope it doesnt matter, but remember the more programme you have the small the space on the hard drive gets! =)

Yes, it does matter. If you install too many software on your system than it will slow down your system because the access time of your HDD will be increased. Moreover, your Windows Registry size will be increased which will slow down the performance of your system.

No, it doesn't really matter. Unless of course you happen to find a couple programs that actually conflict with each other.
