Getting the tattoo can be a little painful more painful in certain areas than others.

The real pain comes after they are finished b/c it's pretty much an open wound on your skin and it has to scab and heal, and believe me that is the most painful part of the tattoo.

I always thought tattoo's would be painful and I would cry or pass out mid tattoo... You need to do a few things to make sure it's not going to be that painful.

When I got mine, it didn't hurt except for a few spots. Mine is about 5 inches long on my upper spine. It isn't too detailed, just a simple music tattoo... But all tattoos can hurt no matter how difficult and where you get it.

I would suggest picking a spot that has some meat or fat on it, heavily muscled areas do hurt worse. Choose a place that is easy to get to, and easy to clean and take care of. If you can't reach or see it don't do it. Unless you have someone who will do it for you.

Get to know your tattoo artist, explain to them, you are worried about it hurting, mine took a few breaks, to let me catch my breath sort of. Which was very nice of him.

Bring something to drink. I found that drinking something will keep you from getting woosy like alot of first timers do, even my artist said it was a good idea.

Sit perfectly still. If you move or jump even laugh or breath the wrong way depending on where you get inked, the needle will go in deeper. Causing a little more pain.

Remember, the lighter colored tattoo you get the more pain. White ink has to be very deep for it too set, so colors like pinks, light blues, light purples, greens, yellows, oranges, and some browns have to been very deeply tattooed. Black and dark colors don't. I would suggest darker colors for your first ink.

Remember if you are afraid of the pain, you won't get the tattoo, and if you do, it's permanent.

Be sure of your tattoo and your artist, the longer you hold out the less likely you are to get it done.

I loved getting my tattoo and I want more, it isn't the most painful thing in the world. About half way through your adrenaline (your natural pain killer) should kick in, and it won't hurt as bad.

Ask if they could use either a 3 or a 5 needle... They are the least painful :)

It is more painful where the skin is thinner. You have to remember a tatoo is a needle going in and out loads of times leaving an ink pigmant in your skin..so its bound to hurt!!

If you make an L shape with your thumb and index finger and squeeze the bit in the middle with your nails as hard as you can, my friend said that is how much hers hurt. (She got it at the bottom of her back)

Its more anoying than painful. Different parts of the body are alittle worse than others. I felt almost nothing getting ink on my fore arms yet I had to bite down on a towel while I got my stomach done.
All in all though they are not that bad. You get a cool rush afterwards too. You'll want more after you get your first.

It hurts I won't lie about that. but I have gone through worst pain in my life. It depends of how much pain a person can tolerate. To me it was no more than a bee sting.

Simple answer? Yes.

It is bearable though. The outline will hurt more, especially nearer bone. The colouring/ shading will not hurt so much.

Any pain is worth it once its finished, and healed.

Depends on where you get it. Go for a chunky part and it shouldn't hurt too bad. When they go over bones, it can be a little painful but you get used to it after a few seconds.

why do people in this section refuse to use the search function? if you had just typed in your question into that little bar that says 'search for questions' you would have found your same question about 10 different times. YES TATTOOS HURT. why do people ask this question every day?! USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION. IT IS YOUR FRIEND. IT IS THERE FOR A REASON.

Yes, but you'll get used to it after the first 10 - 15 minutes.
