Hello,

I am trying to enroll in my benifits for a job that I was newly hired for. I am adding my dependents and then it asks me the relation ship. On the drop down menu the options were taxable child and non-taxable child. What does that mean? There is no explanation of the options. Any ideas? Our benifits cover your children up to age 25. I have a 9 and 13-year-old. Is it asking if your children pay taxes?

I've never run across that terminology - ask your HR department. I'm guessing they are asking if the child is your dependent for tax purposes or not, but it's really strange wording.

The answer you are looking for seems to be right there in your question. The taxable child is under age 25. The non-taxable child is either over 25, or not your dependent.

It may be asking if the child is claimed as a dependent on your income tax return, but you need to ask the H.R. function at your company to be sure.

I think it's asking if they are dependants or not. Not if they are pay taxes..though I must say it's a strange question.

You should really tell them to put a clarifier on it.

I think your best bet is to wait until Monday and ask your payroll dept or HR dept. They can give you a 100% correct answer.

Ask the HR rep at your new job. that's what they are there for. it also makes them aware that there are some problems with the signup for future hires.

A TAXABLE CHILD IS ONE YOU PROVIDE MORE THAN 50 PERCENT OF SUPPORT FOR. NON TAXABLE BEING LESS THAN 50 PERCENT.
