Let me get this straight...... you ask a question and then discount the only possible answer that makes sense??????

GET REAL !!! Look at any track meet and tell me what you see whether it's a men's or women's event???? YOU SEE MUSCLES!!!!

If you're running less than a mile, the only answer is to get into the gym and pump. YOU NEED UPPER BODY STRENGTH. Distances a mile or more require less and less upper body strength.

Ignore this if you want, but it's your running career. 1+1 will always equal 2, even if you don't like it.

Good Luck

How small are your arms? I run long distances, and my arms are not too muscular. Maybe you're moving them too much when you run? If you're a sprinter, I can see why you'd move your arms, but for long distances, your arms just need to move naturally. That natural movement won't weigh your arms down.
But if you want to pump them up, do some curls, or try doing training runs with small weights.

ok im not here to discourage you like most of the people on here have. they do have a point, however the rudeness is not needed. arms wont make you run too much faster but they shure as heck make it easier. if you are distance that is.(which thats what it sounds like) sprinting you will need your arms for balance, precision, and for stride. if you have strong arms your stride will be longer (distance or sprint) longer strides=less steps=less energy used=run faster
DO NOT RUN WITH WEIGHTS it is a very good way to get yourself injured and may be permanately out. my friend was weight running and he tore his acl b/c he sliped and fell. i dont want this to happen to you. do curls with dumbells and run in PLACE with just your arms moving with weights (you dont need to use your legs while doing this unless you want to work your legs then do so) this helped me with armstrength DO THESE WORKOUTS ON FLATGROUND PLEASE dont hurt yourself and dont use to much wait you can start off light like 10lbs in each arm or 5lbs if you cant handle 10lbs if 10lbs is too light add more but dont run with weights it can cause you injury
good luck and good running

sprinters need to be all muscular. so if your a sprinter than start lifting. if your a distance runner it is the opposite. you don't want much muscle mass cause that will add weight that you have to carry for miles. but distance runners still lift. if your arms get really tired than you need to go lifting. your goal is not to bulk up or lift a lot of weight but to just get stronger for running.
