My poor puppy is sick. Last night he had pudding like poop and woke up 2x to go outside (not like him). He ate and drank. This morning he was very lethargic and his poop was like water. He wouldn't eat his breakfast. Then he vomited and was groaning so I took him to the vet. He wasn't dehydrated but they wanted to put him on an IV as a precaution. They are doing tests etc. He is on wellness dry food only and has had 2 sets of shots. He has been very closely supervised and hasn't eaten anthing to foreign other than grass. I did catch him with a roll of packing tape and he had chewed some of the paper on the inside of the roll. I have to pick him up at 2 and take him to the emergency care clinic because the vet is closing. Could this be the result of an upset stomach or is it definitely serious?

Good news. No parvo. He is at the emerg hospital on an iv - found some bacteria but prognosis is good. 800.00 vet bill but glad he's okay. Thanks for your advice everyone. Thanks Annie. Hopefully we get to pick him up at 9:00 tonight. Fingers crossed.

It's possibly a stress reaction from being in the crate and not having anybody at home. She missed you. When my lab mix was a pup, she would let out the most pitiful howling if we had to crate her and leave the house. She's outgrown it now ( and she has 3 other dogs to keep her company), except when I took her to work with me. I work in a vet's office and brought her to work so I could get her check-up & shots during lunch hour. But while I was working, I had to put her in the kennels in the back. She howled the whole day; a really sad sounding howl too. I'm never doing that again! On top of it, she wouldn't eat and broke the tips off of her claws scratching at the chain link. The pooping issue may just be a stress reaction too. If she's acting ok otherwise, I would just keep an eye on her. You sound like a good dog owner--keep up the good work!

It could be the first sign of parvo, which if he is at the vet it's a good sign he will be ok. Mine had all his shots and still ended up with a small case of parvo. He made it just fine, the only problem was the vet bill. If you stay home they have stuff you can take home with you to care for the pup, but if you not home all day they need to be treated at the vet.

Regardless of whether or not it is possibly something minor, treat this as serious. Very serious. If you're wrong and decide to hold off going to the vet, the dog could die.

We lost a young puppy a couple months ago to very similar symptoms. It wasn't Parvo, but we don't know what it was.

We had decided to take the dog to the vet the next day if the symptoms didn't get better. They didn't get better, but it was too late.

It could be one of many things. You don't mention blood in the stool, so I'm leaning towards ruling out parvo, which is good news. If he has been eating grass, it probably is just an upset stomach. He is in the best with the vets taking care of him, always better to err on the side of caution.

The best thing is to wait for the vet. It could be a flue or it could be he did get at something and is sick. It could be a side effect from the shots or something in the food (like and allergy) wait for the vet to tell ya they know things and are looking at the animal. The best thing is to pray to what you believe. I hope and pray the puppy gets better, Best of luck

Could be worms / parasites, Giardia / Coccidia.. Diarrhea isn't a death sentence it's a symptom of a problem.
